Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in a related field.
  • One required state-board license, depending on the state where services are provided: West Virginia Temporary Social Worker License, Licensed Graduate Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor Temporary Permit, or Licensed Professional Counselor Associate; Ohio Licensed Social Worker; Maryland Licensed Master Social Worker or Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor; or Pennsylvania Licensed Social Worker.

  • Understanding of how social, economic, and cultural factors interact.
  • Ability to work effectively and autonomously in a self-directed role.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and manage time efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and treat individuals with mental illnesses or substance abuse disorders in a behavioral health environment.
  • Provide individual and group therapy, outreach, crisis intervention, social rehabilitation, and teaching of everyday living skills for patients of all ages.
  • Provide psychosocial assessments of patients and families to identify emotional, social, and environmental strengths and problems related to diagnosis, illness, treatment, or life situation.
  • Assist in creating comprehensive psychosocial treatment plans using appropriate clinical social work treatments and interventions, including crisis intervention, brief and long-term individual, marital, family, and group therapies, and grief and bereavement work.
  • Screen, identify, diagnose, and assist in treating mental health and substance abuse problems in patients and family members.
  • Assist with screening, identification, diagnosis, management, and treatment of victims of abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and rape.
  • Maintain working knowledge of relevant medical and legal issues affecting patient care, including advance directives and child and elder abuse.
  • Educate patients and families about adapting to a patient's diagnosis, illness, treatment, or life situation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary health care teams.
  • Maintain knowledge of and liaison with community agencies and resources.
  • Use hospital, medical center, and health system resources to address patient care needs.
  • Document assessments, plans, interactions, and interventions according to departmental, hospital, and health system guidelines and standards.
  • Attend and participate in staff, committee, department, and other administrative meetings.
  • Keep current with social work and health care developments and pursue further job-related knowledge.
  • Work in a normal clinical office environment within a behavioral health clinical setting.
