Requirements
  • A minimum master's degree with appropriate coursework in the subject area from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • A current Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant license to practice in California.
  • A current CPR card.
  • A minimum of five years of full-time post-licensure experience, including at least three years of full-time clinical experience.
  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience.
  • Experience in administration or management.
  • Contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and student evaluation.
  • Ability to self-direct, self-pace, multitask, and function effectively under deadline pressure and conflicting priorities.
  • Thorough, accurate, and practical knowledge of the physical therapy field or discipline, including the ability to interpret its theories.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly ethnically and culturally diverse student and associate community.
  • Effective oral and written communication, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, follow-through, attention to detail, and the ability to motivate others.
  • Creative facilitation and conflict-resolution skills for difficult and sensitive issues.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Good judgment.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Program Director with leadership in managing, planning, and implementing the program to support college and departmental goals and accreditation, licensure, consistency, and graduate outcomes.
  • Participate in curriculum development and coordination.
  • Facilitate teaching assignments using blended face-to-face and online instruction when applicable.
  • Provide professional leadership and support for teaching faculty.
  • Deliver classroom and clinical instruction according to approved course syllabi using effective teaching methods.
  • Develop daily lesson plans.
  • Advise and tutor students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grade records.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, instructional seminars, annual in-service training, college activities, student functions, graduation exercises, open houses, new student orientations, and advisory board meetings.
  • Monitor and analyze student attrition and retention data and work with college leaders to develop retention initiatives.
  • Develop course content and methods of instruction.
  • Observe and evaluate student work, provide feedback, and suggest improvements.
  • Encourage communication and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Present lectures and conduct discussions using visual aids such as graphs, charts, videotapes, and slides.
  • Administer standardized oral, written, and performance tests to measure progress and evaluate learning effectiveness.
  • Supervise independent and group projects, field placements, laboratory work, and other training as needed.
  • Provide individualized tutorial and remedial instruction.
  • Provide student support services while safeguarding the integrity of the educational process.
  • Deliver curriculum according to approved syllabi, program objectives, and required course contact hours.
  • Use instructional methods and learning strategies appropriate to student needs and modify them when necessary.
  • Maintain student information and records privacy and confidentiality.
  • Maintain required credentials and current knowledge in the teaching field.
  • Participate in professional development activities and professional organizations, and attend meetings, workshops, and seminars.
  • Follow college policies, procedures, ethical standards, compliance requirements, applicable laws, and professional standards.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance and accurately record time worked and time off.
  • Properly use and maintain department equipment and supplies, identify unsafe conditions, and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Maintain order, cleanliness, and safety at work.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Program Director.
