Requirements
  • RHIA, RHIT, CPC, or CCS-P certification or credential with working knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10, Current Procedural Terminology, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System coding.
  • One to three years of experience in Current Procedural Terminology and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System physician procedural coding.
  • Ability to maintain a 95% coding accuracy rate and required daily productivity.
  • Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines for physician services, including hospital inpatient, observation, consultant, surgical, critical care, and evaluation and management services.
  • Ability to sit for up to seven hours per day, frequently type and perform data entry, frequently use the hands, and occasionally lift up to ten pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Code and abstract professional fee hospital services performed by physicians from medical records according to ICD-9/ICD-10, Current Procedural Terminology, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines.
  • Use 3M Encoder to validate relative value units and Current Procedural Terminology procedure unbundling.
  • Maintain coding accuracy through quality reviews.
  • Maintain daily productivity as outlined.
  • Perform data entry of abstracted physician information into specialty-specific databases.
  • Conduct educational sessions for medical staff on coding and documentation compliance.
  • Work with Medical Records, Finance, and Physician Billing to ensure appropriate information flow.
