Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related degree from an ABET-accredited school.
  • Seven to ten years of structural engineering experience, including extensive experience building models in PLS-TOWER.
  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment, with demonstrated critical-thinking skills.
  • Expertise in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional Engineer certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee and take responsible charge of structural project design execution, including PLS-TOWER modeling, finite-element-method structure modeling, analysis, reinforcement design, new construction, and retrofit work for lattice tower structures supporting voltages through 500 kilovolts.
  • Develop proposals, including man-hour estimates, schedules, and budgets for project execution.
  • Develop project deliverables and templates, including conceptual and detailed designs.
  • Develop production drawings, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations for non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Execute structural design assignments using prescribed methods, standard techniques, commercially available software, industry-specific software, drawing sequences and presentation standards, component sizing, and refinement of rough sketches for computer-aided design development.
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other structural data to plan and design projects.
  • Incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Review schedules, budgets, and project criteria to inform civil design and layouts.
  • Organize and maintain revisions of the project 3D model, drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical, well-structured manner.
  • Oversee, maintain, and develop the structural design quality-review process, including back-checking drawings, models, and components and reviewing shop drawings using the model.
  • Provide training to and oversee the technical progression of lower-level staff.
  • Communicate effectively in and conduct design-review meetings for projects or as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Smartsheet experience.
  • Experience with structural analysis programs and tools including AutoCAD, ATADS, T-FAD, and LPILE.
  • California Professional Engineer certification, or willingness to obtain it.

L.A. Family Housing provides affordable housing for low-income families in Greater Los Angeles and pairs it with supportive services. They own and operate 22 properties, including three shelters and 19 permanent affordable buildings, offering a continuum of care from temporary housing to permanent rental housing.
