  • A university degree or equivalent.
  • Three years of directly related experience demonstrating ability in the field, knowledge of broadcasting, and awareness and comprehension of issues and events in the community and region.
  • Fluent bilingualism in English and Inuktitut.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
  • A mandatory criminal record check is required for candidates who advance in the recruitment process.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and organize, or participate in planning and organizing, programs or program segments; prepare material for broadcast and assume production responsibility where a producer is not assigned.
  • Propose program ideas, suggest and arrange guests or interviewees, prepare background notes and questions, and conduct on-air or off-air interviews.
  • Write material for broadcast.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with a variety of sources.
  • Gather and report information from various sources.
  • Evaluate and organize gathered information and present it on air coherently and understandably.
  • Edit program material.
  • Interact extemporaneously with guests, interviewees, panelists, and audience members, using interviewing skills to elicit pertinent facts and information.
  • Provide narration and linking continuity between program segments.
  • Describe actualities such as music programs, parades, sporting events, and other special events.
  • Read newscasts, news bulletins, weather forecasts, and other survival information.
  • Check equipment to ensure proper operating condition.
  • Ensure program audio mixes achieve optimum aural results.
  • Make emergency substitutions or repairs in case of technical failure to maintain clear and continuous service, and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Participate in community relations activities to promote CBC.
  • Direct a program or program segment in a studio or at a remote location.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of communication with audience members.
  • Perform incidental technical functions necessary for the smooth and continuous functioning of the station.
