Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience in clinical research and/or program management are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A CLASP Certification is required within the first 6 months of the position.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage significantly complex projects and design and implement new programs.
  • Ability to analyze, condense, and synthesize information and provide accurate analysis and summaries.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the research staff for the Department of Neuroscience and the Del Monte Institute.
  • Investigate and gather information on available research grants and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to direct all facets and phases of financial and administrative management, including general appropriation, endowment, federal and non-federal grants and contracts, and gift funds.
  • Prepare financial reports and statements.
  • Interview, hire, train, and evaluate the performance of staff.
  • Communicate with sponsors, researchers, and industry partners to move projects toward successful completion.
  • Ensure an adequate balance between the research mission and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Manage and direct day-to-day research staff operations and implement Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Plan and direct administrative and financial support for research activities and continuously improve operational and financial performance.
  • Manage and direct a team of research staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, mentoring, workload distribution, performance evaluation, counseling, corrective feedback, and professional development.
  • Oversee, implement, and monitor grant, institutional, endowment, and gift account budgets and reporting.
  • Ensure appropriate fiscal controls and systems are in place and followed, review expenditures for compliance, and implement corrections as needed.
  • Manage the post-award portfolio by reviewing budget status, account ledgers, and financial responsibilities with Principal Investigators and research staff.
  • Make recommendations regarding staff allocations and spending priorities.
  • Review Notices of Award for accuracy and project impact.
  • Manage sponsor invoicing, subcontracts, and other financial transactions.
  • Work with Principal Investigators on progress reports, project terminations, extension requests, and grant closeout.
  • Monitor funding changes and project end dates to identify funding gaps, suggest funding opportunities, or reassign underfunded grant personnel.
  • Prepare award projections and complete expenditure reports.
  • Oversee research administration projects and all aspects of the pre-award process for sponsored research proposals.
  • Provide leadership and expert guidance to faculty, Principal Investigators, and staff in preparing research applications, proposals, budgets, and related documentation.
  • Interpret and apply institutional, governmental, and sponsor policies and regulations for accurate, consistent, and compliant submissions.
  • Review funding announcements, protocols, and sponsor requirements; develop and negotiate budgets with industry and external partners; and ensure timely proposal submissions.
  • Serve as a liaison to sponsors and University offices.
  • Oversee departmental compliance reviews and provide education and resources for research administration and regulatory compliance best practices.
  • Collect and report sponsored-project statistics for the department and centers.
  • Provide routine reporting and communication at department and committee meetings.
  • Report to leadership on fiscal management, projected surpluses or deficits, changes in faculty research efforts, and potential research-staff funding shortfalls.
  • Analyze trends and close out accounts in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute departmental strategic initiatives.
  • Identify targeted research interests and share funding opportunities and announcements with faculty.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with providers, study teams, study participants, Principal Investigators, research staff, sponsoring agencies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate on internal and external committees to stay informed about the research landscape.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
