Requirements
  • Chartered membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers is essential.
  • A demonstrable track record of delivering multidisciplinary projects to a high standard in at least one sector in which BakerHicks operates is required.
  • Considerable experience managing large and varied teams ranging from apprentices and graduates to principal level is required.
  • Extensive involvement in contributing to or leading bids, proposals, and tender specifications is required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to present complex ideas clearly, are required.
  • The ability to develop enduring relationships with internal and external stakeholders that deliver long-term benefits is required.
  • Outstanding design, technical detailing, and specification-writing experience is required.
  • Expert design experience with mechanical building services systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and public health systems, is required.
  • Experience using Navisworks is required.
  • Experience using NBS Create or Chorus is required.
  • The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance for the role.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the Mechanical Services team in the location office, including recruitment support, resourcing, professional development, and engagement to deliver high-quality project output.
  • Manage Mechanical Services involvement across multiple projects, including time, cost, quality assurance, health and safety, resource management, client relationship management, and project delivery.
  • Monitor, support, and champion quality and compliance controls within local teams and projects.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of the national Mechanical Services team and participate in Mechanical Services management team meetings.
  • Manage time, cost, quality, resources, and delivery, ensuring department and management communication clearly addresses resource, project, and customer requirements.
  • Lead preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scopes of work, and change controls.
  • Monitor project fee spend and deliver commercial objectives, including invoicing and cost-value reconciliation management.
  • Manage cost-of-further-works and resource plans.
  • Provide technical and operational feedback on department performance.
  • Conduct technical discipline design reviews and provide peer-group audits of other team members’ designs.
  • Recruit, develop, retain, and engage members of the Mechanical Services team.
  • Act as the interface with project clients on key projects and provide a responsive, customer-focused service.
  • Implement strategies directed by the Discipline Director or Senior Management Team to meet business objectives.
  • Create a team environment that enables continual development, feedback, and professional growth.
  • Ensure team compliance with company quality management and best practice.
  • Manage staff producing calculations and design deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and reports, as well as site surveys, construction-stage duties, client liaison, coordination with design and construction teams, project management, costing, and other duties required by the project brief.
