Requirements
  • An accredited bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related science such as biology or chemistry, together with completion of an accredited medical technology clinical practice program such as NAACLS, CAAHEP, or ABHES.
  • Alternatively, an accredited bachelor's degree including 16 semester hours in biological science with one microbiology course, 16 semester hours in chemistry with one organic or biochemistry course, and one mathematics course, together with two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience within the last ten years as a certified Medical Laboratory Technician through ASCP-BOC.
  • At least one year of Medical Technologist experience within the last three years.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory medicine techniques and practices.
  • Demonstrated education and clinical training in the practice of laboratory medicine.
  • No sponsorship is available.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance.
  • Ability to push and pull with 30 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Rotate regularly through laboratory areas in which the Medical Technologist has been trained and is competent.
  • Perform a broad range of laboratory procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Transfusion Medicine.
  • Perform advanced and complex laboratory procedures, recognize deviations from expected results, and analyze and correct problems using scientific principles.
  • Recognize and communicate predefined critical results affecting patient care.
  • Maintain optimal laboratory equipment functioning and appropriate documentation records; operate, calibrate, identify malfunctions, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory analyzers.
  • Perform and document quality control, quality assurance, and corrective actions related to test performance using statistical principles and performance-improvement theories.
  • Enter and verify laboratory results in the computer system; recognize deviations from expected results and analyze and correct problems using scientific principles.
  • Perform other duties assigned in relation to Medical Technologist responsibilities.
