About the job

Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, drawings, studies, and common specifications.
  • Deep understanding of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, hydrology modeling and studies, scour analysis, large-scale grading analyses, civil road and drainage design, crane pad and crane walk designs, transportation and delivery plans, flood zone review, wetlands review, geotechnical methods and reports, and general civil engineering design and best practices.
  • Ability to research local and state requirements as they pertain to civil design.
  • Deep understanding of the lifecycle of renewable energy projects, key risks, and multidisciplinary engineering touchpoints and impacts.
  • Familiarity with utility-scale photovoltaic construction sequencing, environmental permitting for renewable projects, and interconnection and substation site considerations.
  • Ability to remain focused and reliable in completing tasks and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects, including interaction with outside vendors, consultants, and contractors.
  • Strong technical judgment and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently and lead complex scopes.
  • Applicants must have current authorization to work for any employer in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for an employment visa now or in the future.
Responsibilities
  • Perform site feasibility analyses, including topography, grading concepts, cut/fill optimization, drainage and hydrology evaluations, geotechnical and soil constraint reviews, and access, constructability, and equipment logistics.
  • Lead development of and provide input into conceptual and preliminary civil designs, including site selection, layout optimization, and high-level cost trade-off analyses.
  • Support environmental and land entitlement efforts by providing civil input to permit applications, developing technical narratives, and reviewing exhibits and drawings.
  • Coordinate with development, environmental, and real estate teams to verify scopes of work for ALTA and topographic surveys; address easements, rights-of-way, and access constraints; and address jurisdictional requirements and stakeholder comments.
  • Review engineering, procurement, and construction bids and provide technical support on schedules of values, bid assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications; manage civil technical interfaces to support contractor selection.
  • Perform technical reviews as the Owner’s Engineer for civil studies and design packages, including site grading and mass earthwork plans, stormwater management and drainage systems and reports, erosion and sediment control plans, access roads, crane paths, laydown areas, and civil coordination with other engineering scopes.
  • Assist in development of Owner’s Engineer scope and support selection of the Owner’s Engineer for project execution design reviews.
  • Manage and review work performed by external engineering consultants, engineering, procurement, and construction contractors, and subcontractors to provide civil designs that reduce risk, cost, and schedule impacts.
  • Support construction activities by responding to requests for information and field issues, reviewing submittals and as-builts, providing constructability and value-engineering input, and attending weekly project meetings.
  • Coordinate across electrical, structural, environmental, geotechnical, and other disciplines and departments to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of engineering study and design standards, quality assurance and quality control processes, and design guidelines; perform capital expenditure versus operating expenditure evaluations of proposed specification changes.
  • Identify lessons learned throughout all project phases and implement corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers and designers and perform reviews of their work.
  • Assist in recruiting, developing, and mentoring engineering team members.
Desired Qualifications

What believers are saying

  • Leeward finished 525 MW in Oklahoma in July 2026, converting backlog into revenue.
  • Fitch affirmed BB- in July 2026, signaling stable access to project debt.
  • Harvey Solar’s 350 MW acquisition expands Ohio optionality and deepens LRE’s national pipeline.

What critics are saying

  • Illinois Bureau wind was delayed in June 2026, showing federal permitting can freeze LRE projects.
  • Harvey Solar stays pre-construction until 2028, exposing Ohio returns to permitting and interconnection slippage.
  • If Google redirects future Oklahoma PPAs, LRE loses its clearest financing engine and growth narrative.

What makes Leeward Renewable Energy unique

  • Google-backed Oklahoma portfolio proves LRE can finance and execute 725 MW at scale.
  • Sierra Pinta’s 112.5 MW Arizona BESS gives LRE credible storage depth beyond pure solar.
  • Leeward’s 31-project, 3,952 MW contracted fleet supports long-duration cash flow and lender confidence.
