Requirements
  • High school degree or 1-3 years of equivalent experience in industrial or commercial mechanics preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems and safe machine operation principles, including welding experience.
  • Capability of lifting press parts and making mechanical repairs.
  • Good math, mechanical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, reach, and lift 35 pounds.
  • Understanding of corporate and plant policies and practices while keeping accurate, useful operational and maintenance records.
Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems, including disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and calibration.
  • Use information from operators to diagnose equipment problems; clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs; examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
  • Observe and test machinery and equipment operation to diagnose malfunctions using voltmeters and other testing devices.
  • Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
  • Reassemble equipment after inspections, testing, or repairs.
  • Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production machinery and equipment.
  • Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning machinery and equipment components.
  • Study blueprints and manufacturer manuals to determine the correct installation and operation of machinery.
  • Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment.
  • Test all repairs upon completion.
  • Record parts and materials used and request new parts and materials.
  • Record repairs and maintenance performed, including work performed when blueprints or manufacturer specifications are unavailable or incomplete.
  • Follow safety and security practices and procedures and maintain a safe, clean, and secure work environment.
  • Communicate potential mechanical hazards to management, mechanics, and equipment operators.
  • Execute the maintenance work schedule provided by the supervisor and make strategic decisions to complete scheduled work within the assigned period.
  • Keep the Foreman informed of issues that may affect equipment operational capability.
  • Maintain the shop in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Attend meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain contact with the Foreman, maintenance crew, production supervisors, and equipment operators.
  • Keep the maintenance supervisor and manager informed of abnormal or critical situations and seek advice on matters outside the employee’s knowledge or authority.
  • Perform other tasks and special assignments requested by management.
  • Work with the production manager to set equipment maintenance priorities.
  • Rotate between first and second shifts as scheduled, with some weekend work required.
