Requirements
  • Professional competency in the science of respiratory care commensurate with the National Board for Respiratory Care credential.
  • Graduation from an AMA-approved school of respiratory care.
  • Licensure by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • An associate's or two-year degree is required.
  • Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care; candidates not registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care must obtain registration within two years of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Administer physician-prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gases, and mechanical ventilation.
  • Perform invasive and non-invasive evaluation procedures to determine respiratory care needs and make recommendations based on department protocols.
  • Monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation through clinical assessment, routine rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostic testing.
  • Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens for diagnosis and measure patients' lung capacity to identify impairments.
  • Offer diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on patient analysis.
  • Communicate with healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Assure the smooth operation of the pulmonary function test and arterial blood gas laboratory, along with other duties assigned by a supervisor or manager.
  • Document patient-care activities and ensure compliance with departmental quality-of-care standards and regulations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and/or Neonatal Advanced Life Support certification is preferred.
  • Prior experience is preferred.
