Kraken's xStocks surpasses $1 billion in tokenized equities assets. 2026-10-31 15:13:11 Key takeaways. * Kraken's xStocks surpassed $1 billion in assets under management on October 27, quadrupling from $225 million in February 2025. * According to Payward, xStocks expanded to support more than 1,500 tokenized representations of stocks, ETFs and IPOs across American, British, European and Hong Kong markets. * Kraken's xStocks platform now operates across more than 10 blockchains with over 550,000 holders worldwide and $45 billion in cumulative transaction volume. Kraken's tokenized equities platform xStocks surpassed $1 billion in assets under management on October 27, according to Payward's October 28 announcement. The milestone reflects growing investor demand for exposure to traditional financial markets through blockchain infrastructure. Assets under management quadrupled from approximately $225 million in February, with the platform now supporting more than 1,500 tokenized representations of stocks, ETFs and IPOs spanning American, British, European and Hong Kong markets. The expansion occurs as Kraken, Robinhood and Ondo Finance compete to bring publicly traded assets onto blockchains. xStocks expands from 60 assets to more than 1,500. Kraken launched xStocks in June 2025 with 60 tokenized U.S. equities and ETFs on Solana. The platform has since expanded into an ecosystem spanning more than 10 blockchains and hundreds of integrated partners. Payward reports more than $45 billion in cumulative transaction volume and over 550,000 holders worldwide. Another $100 million in xStocks has been deployed across decentralized finance protocols, where eligible assets can serve as collateral or participate in lending. The expansion includes tokenized Russell 1000 constituents, increasing coverage of major U.S. companies. Kraken has also expanded traditional stock trading across Europe, giving eligible customers access to conventional equities alongside blockchain-based representations. Solana and Ethereum host tokenized equity activity. Solana provided the original infrastructure for xStocks, while Ethereum-compatible networks have expanded distribution. Mantle introduced tokenized equities through xStocks and Bybit before adding a tokenized Franklin Templeton ETF. Bybit has enabled selected xStocks collateral across margin and lending products, allowing traders to borrow against tokenized equity exposure. Rival Ondo Stocks surpassed $1 billion in tokenized asset value in August, demonstrating that Kraken is competing against another rapidly expanding issuer. Tokenized stocks operate with ownership and regulatory restrictions. xStocks tokens are issued by Backed Assets (JE) Limited and provide economic exposure to underlying securities. Holders do not receive ordinary shareholder voting rights or direct cash dividends, although dividend benefits may be reflected through token adjustments. Access remains restricted. xStocks are unavailable to U.S. persons and investors in several other jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom, while regional eligibility and available products vary. Microsoft, Google and Goldman Sachs recently joined other companies questioning tokenized shares, highlighting tensions between established securities markets and blockchain-based alternatives. Faq. One-Hour outage disrupts spot and derivatives trading on Kraken, now restored.

One-Hour outage disrupts spot and derivatives trading on Kraken, now restored. October 31, 2026 The crypto exchange brought services back online following a disruption that halted both spot and derivatives markets. Kraken, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges by trading volume, suffered a platform outage that lasted approximately one hour. The disruption affected both spot and derivatives trading, preventing users from executing orders across multiple markets during the window. Reports indicate the exchange has since restored normal operations. Trading on both spot and derivatives products appears to be functioning again following the interruption. Kraken has not publicly detailed the technical cause of the outage, and the exact scope of affected users remains unclear. Exchange outages like this one draw scrutiny because they interrupt access to markets at unpredictable moments. Traders holding open derivatives positions are particularly exposed during downtime, since they cannot adjust exposure or respond to price moves while systems are unavailable. Spot traders face similar constraints, unable to buy or sell assets until service resumes. Kraken operates as a major venue for both retail and institutional crypto trading, offering spot markets alongside leveraged derivatives products. Its infrastructure processes a significant volume of daily transactions, meaning even brief outages can affect large numbers of users simultaneously. The exchange has generally maintained a reputation for operational stability relative to some competitors, which makes any disruption notable to its user base. Outages at centralized exchanges have periodically raised questions within the crypto industry about platform resilience and risk management. Unlike decentralized protocols, centralized exchanges rely on centralized servers and matching engines, making them susceptible to technical failures, maintenance issues, or unexpected traffic surges. When outages coincide with volatile market conditions, the impact on traders can be amplified, though no specific market conditions during this incident have been confirmed. The duration of this outage, reported at around one hour, is relatively short compared to some prolonged exchange disruptions seen industry-wide in the past. Still, even brief interruptions can generate user frustration and renewed calls for greater transparency from exchanges about system reliability and incident reporting. Market impact. Short-term outages at major exchanges like Kraken can temporarily reduce liquidity and trading activity on affected platforms. Traders unable to execute orders during the disruption may have shifted activity to other venues, though no data on volume redistribution has been reported. For derivatives traders specifically, an inability to manage open positions during an outage carries added risk, particularly in fast-moving markets. The broader implication for Kraken's reputation will likely depend on how quickly and transparently the exchange communicates about the cause and any compensation measures for affected users. Kraken's trading platform is reported to be back online after the roughly one-hour disruption. Further details on the cause of the outage have not yet been disclosed by the exchange. Frequently asked questions. What caused the Kraken outage? The specific technical cause of the outage has not been publicly disclosed by Kraken as of the latest reports. How long did the Kraken outage last? The outage reportedly lasted approximately one hour before trading services were restored. Which trading products were affected? Both spot and derivatives trading on Kraken were affected during the outage, according to reports. Is Kraken's platform fully operational now? Reports indicate that Kraken has restored trading functionality following the disruption.

Kraken restores trading after one-hour outage disrupts spot and derivatives markets.

Kraken restores trading after one-hour outage disrupts spot and derivatives markets. Sarala Published on Oct 30, 2026 at 12:24 PM * Kraken resolved a one-hour trading outage on October 30 that affected its spot and derivatives markets. * The disruption impacted its website, mobile apps, REST, WebSocket and FIX API connections. * Kraken has not disclosed the cause of the outage or the number of affected customers. One of the leading crypto exchanges, Kraken, resolved a trading disruption that affected its spot and derivatives markets on October 30, after customers experienced problems connecting to the exchange and submitting orders across its trading platforms. According to the exchange's official status page, the incident began at 02:42 UTC (8:12 AM IST) and was resolved at 03:42 UTC (9:12 AM IST), lasting approximately one hour. The disruption affected customers using Kraken's website and mobile applications, along with traders connecting through its REST, WebSocket and FIX APIs. These services allow users to access market data, connect trading systems and submit orders to the exchange. Kraken initially reported that it was investigating connectivity and order submission problems affecting both spot and derivatives clients. The exchange posted another update at 02:55 UTC, saying its investigation was continuing, before marking the incident as resolved less than an hour later. Kraken provides no details on what caused the trading disruption. The outage affected more than just customers using Kraken's website or mobile app. Traders relying on automated systems and API connections also faced difficulties accessing the platform and placing orders. REST and WebSocket APIs are commonly used by trading bots and other automated systems to interact with cryptocurrency exchanges. FIX connections are also used by institutional traders to communicate with trading platforms and manage orders. However, Kraken has not disclosed what caused the disruption or whether it resulted from a technical failure in its trading infrastructure. The exchange also did not provide details about the number of affected customers, rejected orders or any financial losses resulting from the incident. Kraken's status page confirmed that the issue had been resolved at 03:42 UTC on October 30. The exchange has not announced any further details about the incident or published a technical explanation. The disruption comes as cryptocurrency exchanges continue to face pressure to maintain reliable trading services, particularly during periods of market activity when delays in order execution can affect traders.

Kraken restores spot, derivatives trading after outage.

Kraken restores spot, derivatives trading after outage. Last updated: October 30, 2026 5:52 am Published: October 30, 2026 Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken restored trading services on October 30 after a widespread connectivity outage disrupted access to its spot and derivatives platforms for approximately one hour, preventing some customers from placing and managing orders. The incident began at 02:42 UTC and affected web and mobile applications alongside REST, WebSocket and FIX connections used by automated trading systems. Kraken confirmed that the disruption was resolved at 03:42 UTC, returning its affected trading services to normal operation. The outage occurred amid heightened volatility across cryptocurrency markets, raising concerns among traders unable to manage open positions or execute transactions during the interruption. Kraken trading platforms disrupted for one hour. The exchange identified connectivity problems affecting spot and derivatives trading shortly after 02:42 UTC, with customers reporting difficulties accessing the platform and submitting orders through multiple interfaces. The disruption extended beyond Kraken's standard trading website, affecting mobile users and institutional clients relying on API connections for order execution and account management. Kraken issued another update at 02:55 UTC confirming that its technical team was continuing to investigate the problem. A final update at 03:42 UTC marked the incident as resolved. The platform also recorded temporary disruption to cross-exchange transfers within its derivatives infrastructure, although Kraken did not establish that the connectivity failure caused a platform-wide withdrawal suspension. For active traders, interrupted connectivity can be particularly consequential during volatile markets. Positions may remain exposed to price changes while customers are unable to submit new orders, adjust existing trades or execute risk-management strategies. Kraken has not disclosed the underlying technical cause, the number of affected customers or whether any trading losses resulted from the interruption. The incident follows several recent operational disruptions. On October 28, Kraken experienced a separate FIX API connectivity problem that prevented some clients from reconnecting after scheduled maintenance. That issue lasted nearly two hours before being resolved early on October 29. The exchange also completed scheduled maintenance across its spot and derivatives platforms on October 29, temporarily restricting order submissions while systems were verified. No connection between that work and the latest outage has been established. Aave exposure rumors remain unverified. The disruption coincided with market speculation about Kraken's alleged $130 million exposure to Aave, following separate concerns surrounding the decentralized lending protocol. However, no verified financial disclosures or on-chain findings have established that the reported exposure created liquidity pressure at Kraken. There is also no evidence connecting the Aave speculation to the exchange's connectivity failure. The outage comes as Kraken continues expanding its institutional and derivatives businesses. Its parent company, Payward, recently advanced plans for CFTC-regulated perpetual futures markets on Hyperliquid, adding to the group's growing trading infrastructure. Kraken has also strengthened its position in regulated European markets, recently leading MiCA-compliant exchanges in spot and perpetual liquidity. Those developments place greater importance on platform reliability as the exchange serves an expanding mix of retail, professional and institutional traders. Kraken's affected services are operational again, but the exchange has yet to provide a technical explanation for the interruption or disclose whether additional safeguards are being implemented to prevent similar disruptions.

Kraken restores trading after one-hour outage affects spot and derivatives.

Kraken restores trading after one-hour outage affects spot and derivatives. Kraken has resolved a trading disruption that prevented some customers from accessing its platform and submitting orders across spot and derivatives markets for approximately one hour on October 30. * Kraken reported connectivity and order placement problems affecting spot and derivatives trading on October 30. * The disruption began at 02:42 UTC and was resolved at 03:42 UTC, according to the exchange's official status page. * Website, mobile, REST, WebSocket and FIX connections were among the affected services. * Some customers reported being unable to trade or withdraw funds, while others encountered error messages. * Separate speculation about more than $130 million in alleged Aave exposure remains unconfirmed, with no established link to the outage. According to Kraken's official status page, the exchange began investigating connectivity and order placement problems at 02:42 UTC, affecting its website, mobile applications and several trading interfaces. The company issued another update at 02:55 UTC before confirming that the incident had been resolved at 03:42 UTC. Meanwhile, the disruption prompted complaints from customers who reported being unable to trade or access certain account functions. It occurred during heightened concern across cryptocurrency markets following the major security incident at Binance, although Kraken has not identified a cause or connected its service problems to another exchange. Kraken confirms trading problems across multiple services. Kraken's initial notice identified problems affecting both spot and derivatives customers attempting to connect to the platform or submit orders. The affected connections included REST, WebSocket and Financial Information Exchange (FIX), which traders and automated systems use to communicate with the exchange. The notice covered regular customers using Kraken's website or mobile applications alongside traders who connect through automated trading software. During the disruption, customers could encounter difficulties accessing markets or submitting orders, including orders intended to open or close positions. Kraken did not publish a count of rejected transactions or affected accounts. At 02:55 UTC, the company said its investigation was continuing without identifying the source of the problems. Its subsequent 03:42 UTC update confirmed that the incident had been resolved, establishing a 60-minute interval between the initial notice and resolution. The incident report listed the website, Kraken App, REST and WebSocket APIs, and derivatives cross-exchange transfers among the affected components. It did not provide a technical explanation of the failure. Kraken users report failed trades and withdrawal difficulties. As the problems unfolded, several customers contacted Kraken's support account on X seeking information about their accounts. One user, posting under the name urmom.eth, complained about receiving repeated error messages while attempting to buy cryptocurrency during a market decline. Kraken Support acknowledged the issue, directing the customer to its incident page for updates while engineers investigated the problem. Another user, CryptoRhino, questioned why withdrawals were unavailable. The support team responded that it was aware of the reported problem and was working on a resolution. Separately, cryptocurrency trader Yishi reported being unable to trade or withdraw funds while the exchange appeared to be operating in post-only mode. The trader later said access had returned. Post-only trading allows users to submit qualifying limit orders that add liquidity to an exchange's order book. It generally prevents orders from immediately executing against existing orders, although Kraken did not confirm that a platform-wide post-only restriction formed part of the October 30 incident. Kraken has not published a separate assessment of the reported withdrawal difficulties or stated whether any customer transactions require further processing. The interruption followed several operational updates involving Kraken's trading infrastructure. On October 29, the exchange carried out scheduled maintenance affecting its spot website and API services at 08:01 UTC. Kraken had warned customers that the systems could become unavailable for approximately 15 minutes during the upgrade. Its maintenance records show that markets temporarily entered cancel-only and post-only modes while engineers checked system status. The scheduled work finished at 08:17 UTC. Derivatives platform maintenance took place during the same period, while a separate FIX API connectivity problem had been resolved earlier that morning. Aave exposure claims emerge during Kraken disruption. The trading problems coincided with unconfirmed claims about Kraken's exposure to decentralized lending platform Aave following the suspension of some Aave markets during the wider cryptocurrency market disruption. One analyst cited alleged exposure exceeding $130 million and questioned whether the exchange could face liquidity pressure. However, the claim did not establish that Kraken was experiencing a liquidity shortage or that the alleged exposure caused its connectivity problems. Kraken has previously disclosed links between its DeFi Earn product and third-party lending protocols. In an October 28 case study, Circle reported that more than $350 million in USDC had entered Kraken's DeFi Earn vaults since launch. The study explained that the service uses Veda vaults on Ink, with independent risk managers overseeing allocations to lending protocols, including Aave. Circle's figures describe cumulative customer deposits into the product, not Kraken's direct financial exposure or an amount lost through Aave. Before the disruption, Kraken had assured customers that it was monitoring the Binance security incident and that its services were operating normally at the time of that statement. Its later official incident report recorded the October 30 trading problems as resolved at 03:42 UTC. Elsewhere, crypto.news recently reported Kraken's stablecoin growth following its partnership with Circle, including increased USDC balances and activity involving decentralized lending products.
