Requirements
  • Current licensure as a Doctor of Medicine to practice in Indiana by the State Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration and Controlled Substance Registration registrations.
  • Board eligible or board certified in the physician specialty; physicians hired while board eligible must become board certified within three years of hire.
  • Insurability for malpractice coverage.
  • Current Basic Life Support or Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Ability to meet and maintain current Eskenazi Health credentialing and privileging requirements.
  • Ability to assess system and patient needs and function autonomously to develop and implement programs that improve patient care.
  • Ability to review and critique research literature related to specialty areas and promote evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in team development, group process, conflict management, and negotiations.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient health histories and perform examinations.
  • Diagnose patients and direct counseling on treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medication in accordance with Indiana statute and professional guidelines.
  • Perform minor procedures in accordance with professional credentialing.
  • Arrange referrals for patients requiring services outside the scope of primary care, including transfer to inpatient care.
  • Review the In-Basket each workday and address time-sensitive patient information with appropriate urgency.
  • Initiate coverage of assignments and ensure continuity of care before anticipated absences.
  • Comply with medical staff bylaws, applicable organizational requirements, policies and procedures, and the infection control plan.
  • Participate in required meetings.
  • Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as requested.
  • Support and participate in quality-of-care, performance-improvement, and patient-safety activities.
  • Support achievement of performance and quality metrics, including cycle time, capacity utilization, no-show rates, missed opportunities, and patients per hour.
  • Support patient-experience and customer-service initiatives and ensure professional patient interactions.
  • Ensure patients are efficiently seen and dispositioned so their needs are met.
  • Complete and attest patient-visit notes accurately and consistently, signing and closing encounters preferably within 24 hours and no later than 72 hours after the encounter.
  • Meet provider mandates and deadlines, including continuing medical education hours, annual PPD completion, annual influenza vaccination, and mandatory training assignments.
  • Represent EMG, Eskenazi Health Center, or Eskenazi Health on assigned committees, task forces, commissions, agencies, and promotional or public-relations efforts when requested by leadership.
  • Maintain availability for the appropriate number of patient appointments according to individual clinical full-time equivalent and adapt to schedule changes to ensure access for essential patient needs.
  • Work closely with the Chief Practice Executive or Medical Director on practice quality and performance requirements.
  • Provide diagnosis, treatment, care coordination, preventive care, and health maintenance within the physician’s field of training.
  • Collaborate with the health center team to achieve its philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Model and uphold the health center’s mission, vision, and performance standards.
  • Comply with health center policies, employment requirements, procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations.
