Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three years of quantity and/or restaurant-style cooking experience are required.
  • Knowledge of cooking methods and food and catering trends, with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, and presentation, is required.
  • The ability to read, write, speak, and understand English is required.
  • The role requires standing and walking for up to eight hours per day, lifting, transferring, pushing, or pulling residents, patients, or equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, and working weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.
  • The role is subject to falls, burns, odors, cuts, sudden temperature changes when entering or leaving refrigerators or freezers, residents or patients with various disease processes, and potential exposure to infectious waste and bloodborne diseases.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve products and meals so they are palatable and appetizing by following planned menus and recipe cards.
  • Prepare food in accordance with quality standards, sanitary regulations, and established policies and procedures to ensure timely and efficient meal service.
  • Stock and maintain sufficient food products at line stations for smooth service periods.
  • Portion food products before cooking according to standard portion sizes, recipe specifications, and portion-control procedures.
  • Review production requirements for raw quantities and estimate required portions.
  • Communicate leftover-food inventory to the manager for integration into the weekly menu.
  • Assist the supervisor with food and supplies inventory by submitting accurate requisitions on schedule, stocking areas cleanly and properly, and notifying the supervisor of shortages.
  • Maintain department work areas and equipment in a clean and safe manner by participating in cleaning duties, following sanitation schedules, and disposing of food and waste properly.
  • Use daily preparation, opening, and closing checklists to complete assigned duties.
  • Assist with catering needs and special events.
  • Assist departmental leadership with developing cooking staff through directed training and coaching.
  • Assume responsibility for food production operations in the supervisor's absence.
  • Produce consistently high-quality food and present a quality plate.
  • Follow special diet orders and established portion-control procedures to meet residents' individual needs.
  • Maintain culinary-service work areas and equipment in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Maintain quality assurance, infection-control, and universal-precaution practices during dietary procedures.
  • Share observations and operational insights that may improve departmental quality and efficiency.
  • Attend all-employee and departmental meetings and scheduled or directed in-service training.
  • Listen and respond to the needs of residents and staff members.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident-care information.
  • Maintain current and accurate records using computers and documentation in accordance with company and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain production orders and usage logs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in food cost and operational control is preferred.
  • Proficiency with point-of-sale and diet-management software is preferred.

Zachary Mills has been named executive director of Ohio Living Sarah Moore, Delaware, OH. In his new role, he will oversee campus operations, including staff engagement, resident and family communications, support for the local advisory board, and financial management. Mills brings more than 13 years of leadership experience as an administrator and executive director at senior living communities throughout Central Ohio. He is a licensed nursing home administrator and earned a bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University. Mills' background includes experience in process improvement, quality outcomes, relationship-building, workforce stabilization, and staff retention. Kyle Ozimkiewicz advances to executive director role at The Philadelphia Protestant Home. Kyle Ozimkiewicz was named executive director of The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPH), Philadelphia, PA. He most recently served as nursing home administrator at PPH, and succeeded Kelli Mills. Ozimkiewicz joined PPH in 2015 as a registered nurse in Pathways Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.
