Silicone threaded plugs like these from CFS seal tight, handle up to 600°F, and install by hand or power tool. A key part of the project is the construction of a new warehouse facility, adding more than 2,000 square meters of storage space for raw materials and finished products. Advanced temperature-controlled storage cells have been installed to help ensure optimal product preservation and more efficient stock management. AkzoNobel has also built a new 638-square-meter waste management facility equipped with next-gen sprinkler systems featuring zoned automatic detection and controlled intervention technology for enhanced operational safety. Alongside the site expansion, AkzoNobel has modernized its Quality Control and Production Services to strengthen product quality and operational performance. Upgrades to the Quality Control department include four new application cabins and a dedicated cabin for chromate products with specialized insulation and secure airlock access. A further eight new laboratory benches with integrated extraction hoods have also been implemented - increasing Quality Control capacity by 166%. Production capabilities at the site have also been enhanced through the installation of precision weighing systems, additional paint tank and a new automatic beads mill dedicated to non-chromate coatings. A redesigned workspace layout and optimized work organization have further optimized production flow, operational flexibility and manufacturing efficiency. According to Arnaud Charmetant, site manager at AkzoNobel, "We are not only strengthening manufacturing capabilities, but also creating a more sustainable and future-ready site that will help accelerate the development of advanced aerospace coating solutions." The overall development project remains on track, with final construction and equipment installation expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The launch of the proven antifouling answers strong demand from professionals and boat owners for reliable, long-lasting hull protection suited for the region's challenging waters AkzoNobel, one of the global leaders in high-performance yacht coatings, is launching its premium antifouling solution, International(R) Micron(R) 350, into the Asia-Pacific market. Following the product's success in Europe, the expanded introduction of Micron 350 brings proven antifouling technology from International(R) to boat owners and professional applicators across Asia-Pacific. The launch is in direct response to significant demand from boat owners and professional applicators for reliable, easy-to-use, multi-season antifouling which works effectively in the world's most demanding high-fouling waters. Engineered to meet the specific challenges of Asia-Pacific waters, where warm tropical and subtropical conditions accelerate fouling growth, including barnacles, slime, algae and weed, Micron 350 provides consistent protection even when the boat is stationary. Unlike hard antifoulings, it continuously smooths as it wears, preventing excessive paint build-up over time. Boat owners benefit from a continuously smoothing finish that reduces drag, improves hull efficiency, and reduces the need for extensive maintenance between seasons. Offering up to two years of antifouling performance, Micron 350 is suitable for both professional yards and DIY boat owners and can be applied up to 12 months before launch, requiring two or three coats by brush or roller, depending on the duration of protection desired. Micron 350 can also be applied using airless spray by professional applicators. Recommended for use as part of an International(R) system, including Interprotect(R) and Primocon(R) primers, Micron 350 is available in black and blue and is suitable for use across GRP/FRP, steel, wood, cast iron, and lead hull types, as well as a wide range of boat sizes and all water environments. Simon Knight, Yacht Regional Sales Manager, APAC, AkzoNobel, said: "We have listened to feedback from Asia-Pacific boaters who are facing real challenges when sailing in some of the toughest fouling conditions in the world. The warm, tropical waters mean that the performance, reliability and durability of their chosen antifouling solution is vital. Micron 350 has been developed specifically to address those demands. It delivers uncompromising fouling protection, even in the harshest sailing environments." Eve Lenez, Yacht Segment Manager at AkzoNobel, added: "Micron 350 represents the right product, at the right time, for the right market. For years, European boaters have relied on Micron 350 antifouling for dependable, long-lasting hull protection, underpinned by decades of research and development from the globally recognized International(R) brand. Our engagement with customers made it clear that boaters in Asia-Pacific needed access to the same leading technology from AkzoNobel, offering comprehensive multi-season performance without added complexity. We are proud to bring Micron 350 to the Asia-Pacific market, ensuring that both everyday boaters and professional applicators can benefit from the proven performance of this product." Micron 350 has a strong track record in Europe, proven across a wide range of boat types and operating conditions, earning the trust of owners, captains and marine professionals. One such user is Captain Osvaldo Cioppi, who skippers the Pershing 72 SILVER PEARL. Based in the Mediterranean, the yacht undertakes extensive cruising each year, including long-distance passages through a variety of climates and fouling conditions: "Micron 350 has given me peace of mind that my boat will come out clean at the next haul-out, even when it remains stationary in the harbor during the winter months. Sailing through different regions, I have noticed that it performs well in both cold waters and tropical waters. When I know I'll be sailing many miles during the year, I always make sure to apply an extra coat." Micron 350 will be available in Asia-Pacific from September 2026 through International(R) authorized retailers and distributors. For more information, visit www.international-yachtpaint.com.
AkzoNobel taps Goldman Sachs for sale of Southeast Asia paints assets. 12th August 2026 12:51 PM By Mick Basa, Jasmine Desai and Benaiah Moses AkzoNobel, the listed Dutch paints and coatings manufacturer, has appointed Goldman Sachs to explore a sale of its southeast Asian paints assets, according to two sources familiar with the matter. Non-binding offers (NBOs) are expected by mid- September, they said. The company has begun preliminary discussions with potential strategic buyers, one of the sources said, adding that Thailand's Siam Cement Group could be among potential bidders. The business is strong, and its diversified product mix with well-known brands would appeal to strategic acquirers, he said. The process follows comments by AkzoNobel CEO Greg Poux-Guillaum in April 2026 that the company was considering the divestiture of certain decorative paint businesses in Southeast Asia generating EUR 300m (USD 346m) of annual revenue. AkzoNobel clocked USD 11.47bn in revenue in 2025, as disclosed. Logical buyers of the portfolio as a whole could be global strategics such as US-based Sherwin-Williams and PPG Industries, Japan's Nippon Paint and Kansai Paint, and India's Asian Paints and Berger Paints, said an industry executive. The assets may be also sold in part to major local player which offer the greatest synergies on a country-by-country basis, the executive added. AkzoNobel, with a market cap of USD 12.51bn, has been reshaping the global portfolio. In June 2025, AkzoNobel agreed to sell majority stake in Akzo Nobel India to Indian conglomerate JSW Group in a transaction valuing the business at approximately USD 1.6bn. AkzoNobel's business includes decorative paints, automotive and specialty coatings, industrial coatings, marine protective and yacht coatings, powder coatings. Its Southeast Asian operations span Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam. The ASEAN paints and coatings market continues to expand, and the sector will grow from USD 7.78bn in 2026 to USD 9.92bn by 2031, according to a market research report. The growth is driven by robust construction activity in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, as well as Chinese EV investments and government-backed infrastructure projects, the report said.
