- Enrollment in a Neurodiagnostics program and a letter confirming nine months of clinical experience performing electroencephalogram studies; completion of a Neurodiagnostics program; one year of supervised on-the-job training experience performing electroencephalogram studies in a clinical setting with a letter confirming the experience; or one year of experience performing electroencephalogram studies.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
- Consult with physicians and check the patient's history.
- Explain the procedure to the patient and place electrodes in appropriate cranial areas using the International 10-20 system.
- Perform electroencephalogram studies in accordance with standard operating procedures and American Clinical Neurophysiology Society guidelines.
- Provide detailed observations while recording the electroencephalogram.
- Report the need for repairs to electroencephalogram equipment to the immediate supervisor.
- Enter charges into the computer system to ensure proper patient billing.
- Practice proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Immediately report mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee, patient, or visitor injury-accidents to the manager.
- Registration by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ABRET).
- Completion of a certified electroencephalogram program and one year of experience performing electroencephalogram studies.
