Major internet outage hits banking apps and websites including Lloyds, HSBC and Revolut. Published 20th Oct 2026, 10:57 BST A major internet outage has left customers struggling to access a number of popular websites and apps, including banking services. Customers of Lloyds Bank, HSBC, Revolut, Screwfix and delivery firm DPD have reported problems this morning (October 20), according to outage tracking website Downdetector. Digital banking service Revolut appears to have been particularly badly affected, with some customers unable to open the app or process payments. The disruption is believed to be linked, at least in part, to technical problems affecting Google Cloud, which provides internet infrastructure for a wide range of websites and online services. Google has confirmed it is experiencing issues with its facilities in western Europe, although it remains unclear whether all the reported outages are connected. The technology giant has apologised to "all who are affected by the disruption" and confirmed there is currently no workaround available. It is not yet known when services will return to normal.

It also showed spikes for Lloyds Bank, Rightmove, Royal Mail and HSBC. One user said on X that their Revolut card had been declined whilst trying to make a payment and they were also unable to use their app. The fintech serves more than 80m personal customers across the world, and more than 800,000 business customers. In the UK, it is estimated to have around 13m customers. Halifax, which is owned by Lloyds, also posted on X that it was aware some customers were "having issues" with the app and online. The Downdetector also flagged issues with NHS England, Gov.UK and Asda on Tuesday morning following the Google Cloud disruption. A spokesperson for Revolut said: "We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple services. We can confirm that all our customers' money and data are safe. "We've been working to fix the issue since it was identified this morning and apologise to anyone affected and for any inconvenience caused."
