Core Responsibilities

• Lead engineering projects and project teams 
• Deliver projects that improve the quality of Enable’s product and minimise defects. 
• Confidently deliver challenging project requirements within budget. 
• When tasks are large, break them down into smaller, more actionable parts. 
• Effectively manage shifting priorities when necessary. 
• Structure code in a manner that anticipates the type of scale and maintenance required for the scope of the work. Consider legibility both in authoring and reviewing pull requests. 
• Work on engineering initiatives that drive a larger feature set, whilst being careful to not create technical debt in the process. 
• Champion and demonstrate the reduction of technical debt. 

Processes

• Take the lead on “go-live” project deployments. 
• Demonstrate awareness of topics that are current business priorities and apply that knowledge when making decisions. 
• Take some of the responsibility for the technical direction of the company and drive technical improvements at Enable. Lead architectural and technical design decisions. 
• Improve software engineering quality standards within the company. 
• Plan scope for upcoming Engineering-led project initiatives effectively prioritise the highest value product features and improvements. 
• When diagnosing or troubleshooting, identify root causes rather than simply dealing with symptoms. 
• Able to estimate for challenging scopes of work, and when those estimates are off, coordinate with stakeholders in Product Management to address risks, and take ownership of the risk. 

People

• Demonstrate technical mastery and push the boundaries of capability within yourself and the team. 
• Participate in the induction and onboarding processes for new engineers. 
• Regularly help support colleagues through reviewing, mentoring, and pair programming. 
• Fully cover the Engineering Manager role from time to time. 
• Understand the purpose of the features the team is working on and communicate that purpose to team members. Ask clarifying questions when expectations are unclear.
