Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) credential is required.
  • Prior experience is necessary.
  • Microsoft Office and general computer knowledge are required.
  • Access to a phone at all times and the ability to perform basic math calculations are required.
  • The employee must be able to perform the listed physical activities, including frequent standing, walking, sitting, handling, reaching, bending and squatting or kneeling, as well as lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds frequently and over 100 pounds occasionally.
  • The employee must be able to meet the stated vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch requirements and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • The position is subject to pre-employment background and drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Assume full responsibility for store operations in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding professionally to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Monitor sales activities to ensure satisfactory customer service and quality goods.
  • Assign employees to specific duties and direct and supervise employees performing sales, inventory, cash-reconciliation and customer-service activities.
  • Inventory stock and reorder merchandise when inventory reaches specified levels.
  • Maintain records of purchases, sales and requisitions.
  • Enforce safety, health and security rules.
  • Examine products received for storage or resale and assess their condition.
  • Hire, train and evaluate sales and marketing personnel, and promote or terminate workers when appropriate.
  • Perform subordinate work such as cleaning and organizing shelves and displays and selling merchandise.
  • Establish and implement departmental policies, goals, objectives and procedures.
  • Instruct staff on handling difficult and complicated sales.
  • Formulate merchandise pricing policies according to profitability requirements.
  • Estimate consumer demand and determine the types and quantities of goods to sell.
  • Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, displayed and functioning as advertised.
  • Plan and prepare work schedules and maintain employee schedules and time-card records.
  • Review inventory and sales records and prepare reports for management and budget departments.
  • Operate shifts within company guidelines to achieve sales and profit objectives.
  • Assist the Store Manager with measuring and evaluating employees and taking corrective action.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, demoting and terminating employees.
  • Assist with developing employees and maintaining effective store operations, records, work schedules and two-way communication.
  • Assist with achieving sales, profit and productivity objectives through goal setting and planning.
  • Control store expenses and inventory.
  • Maintain and preserve company property.
  • Develop a favorable customer image through store cleanliness, appearance and employee conduct.
  • Provide supervision to reduce losses due to theft.
  • Monitor local competition and handle customer complaints.
  • Display merchandise to maximize profits.
  • Record hours worked, sales, markups, markdowns, spoilage and store use of merchandise accurately.
  • Organize and submit daily sales information to the corporate office when the Store Manager is absent.
  • Close out payroll accurately and prepare or oversee end-of-week and end-of-year reports.
  • Maintain employee warning notices and train new employees on each shift.
  • Follow cash-handling and bank-deposit procedures, including maintaining a low cash drawer and keeping the safe locked.
  • Complete shift-checkout reports.
  • Enforce vendor check-in procedures.
  • Maintain coolers, shelves and displays by keeping them full and fronted.
  • Clean and maintain store equipment, floors, shelves, parking areas and surrounding grounds.
  • Prepare and maintain perishable foods according to company standards.
  • Order and maintain merchandise to prevent out-of-stocks.
  • Build and maintain sellable displays.
  • Unload stock trucks.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by store management.
