Requirements
  • A Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree is required.
  • Experience in pediatric clinical care is required.
  • Candidates must be board eligible or board certified in pediatrics.
Responsibilities
  • Provide forensic medical examinations and consultations and create medical reports for children alleged to have been maltreated, abused, or neglected.
  • Perform complete physical examinations on referred children.
  • Triage cases with the Child Protection Team case coordinator and provide initial assessments of cases referred by the Department of Children and Families, law enforcement, or medical providers.
  • Review interviews of children and their caregivers before examinations.
  • Perform sexual abuse examinations, including photographic documentation, as needed.
  • Be available for a 24-hour on-call rotation, including weekends and holidays, for triage and emergent medical examinations in the Child Protection Team office or hospitals.
  • Determine the need for orders and obtain appropriate diagnostic studies.
  • Assist the psychologist in identifying behavioral problems and diagnoses.
  • Arrange outpatient studies or consultations as indicated or requested by the Medical Director.
  • Review Hotline reports to determine which cases are mandatory referrals to the Child Protection Team.
  • Remain current on child maltreatment literature, the special medical and psychological needs of foster children, Florida statutes, and Department of Children and Families and Department of Health rules and regulations.
  • Participate in staff development.
  • Provide in-service training.
  • Provide community outreach education.
  • Provide expert testimony through depositions or court testimony per subpoena and participate in pre-filing and pre-trial conferences as needed.

  • Board eligibility or board certification in pediatrics.
