Requirements
  • All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia; American Board-certified physicians are eligible for a full license.
  • All family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide emergency care in a 24/7 emergency room serving Western Cape Breton.
  • Provide solo coverage during 12-hour emergency department shifts.
  • Treat triage level 4 and 5 patients during Split Flow/Lower Acuity shifts alongside another physician managing higher-acuity cases.
  • Optionally combine Split Flow/Lower Acuity emergency shifts with a local family practice.
Desired Qualifications
  • Physicians who are new to emergency medicine or new to the Nova Scotia system are supported in developing their skills and comfort in rural emergency care.
