About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of production or operations leadership experience with direct P&L or output ownership, including experience leading multiple assembly lines and first-line managers.
  • Proven experience scaling pilot-to-full-rate manufacturing in electro-mechanical or aerospace/robotics environments.
  • Proficiency with manufacturing execution systems (MES) and enterprise resource planning (ERP), along with strong data-driven process control skills.
  • Comfort operating 12–16-hour ramp days, running shift handovers, and making rapid escalation decisions under production pressure and tight schedules.
  • A demonstrated track record owning safety-critical processes, quality gates, and traceability for fielded systems or regulated hardware.
  • A history of meeting throughput, yield, and on-time delivery targets, and ability to define and achieve 90–95%+ first-pass yield or equivalent step-change improvements where applicable.
  • Experience hiring, developing, and retaining frontline supervisors and technicians, setting clear performance expectations, and enforcing accountability.
  • Strong ability to read technical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA) outputs.
  • Must work on-site at the South San Francisco manufacturing facility; regular on-site presence is required during ramp and steady-state production.
  • Minimal travel (less than 10%) between sites or to suppliers; travel between manufacturing facilities may be required during ramp and sustainment phases.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day execution and outcomes for four top-level assembly lines and twelve feeder lines, setting and meeting daily build, first-pass yield, and ship-ready rate targets.
  • Drive production against concrete targets, including weekly unit output and scheduled ship-date performance.
  • Manage and develop production supervisors, leads, and technicians across shifts; build staffing plans and run-rate coverage for first- and second-shift schedules.
  • Maintain on-site accountability for quality, safety, and regulatory checkpoints that affect aircraft airworthiness and field deployment.
  • Lead planning, scheduling, tooling allocation, and build readiness to eliminate line starvation and minimize changeover time.
  • Implement, standardize, and enforce standard operating procedures, build packets, work instructions, and manufacturing control systems to ensure repeatable assembly and traceability.
  • Monitor and own throughput, yield, cycle time, downtime, scrap rate, labor efficiency, and mean time to repair; run weekly performance reviews with corrective actions and owners.
  • Support new product introduction ramp plans by defining climb plans, training curricula, quality gates, and defect-reduction targets during the first six months of a new product introduction.
  • Promote accountability and safety through proactive risk management, clear communication from technicians, and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver aircraft and autonomy hardware to support operating delivery networks.
  • Transition P2 from pilot builds to sustained, high-volume production that meets safety, quality, and service-level requirements.

About the Company

Zipline

Builds and runs autonomous drone delivery

Zipline builds and operates autonomous drone delivery networks for retailers, restaurants and healthcare systems that need to move products without road traffic. Its electric aircraft carry food, prescriptions and other supplies from partner sites or distribution hubs to customers and health facilities. The company combines aircraft, charging equipment and delivery software with flight operations, so partners buy a logistics service rather than manage their own drones. Merchants use its ordering and tracking tools to reach customers, while governments and health systems contract for medical supply delivery. Zipline was founded in 2014 and has its headquarters in South San Francisco, California.
