San Francisco Public Utilities Commission taps Stantec for environmental services work. October 02, 2026 The seven-year contract will include environmental review, permitting, and compliance services The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) has selected Stantec for a seven-year on-call environmental services contract with an initial capacity of US$15 million, marking a meaningful step in the Company's work with the agency. Through this contract, Stantec will support environmental review and compliance efforts across some of SFPUC's most critical water, power, and wastewater operations. "This collaboration underscores growing demand for integrated environmental planning and compliance as SFPUC continues to make infrastructure improvements and navigate climate and permitting complexities," said Scott Oppelt, senior principal and business center practice leader at Stantec. "While Stantec has supported several of SFPUC's water projects, this award represents our first major environmental services opportunity with the agency." Work will include National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) analysis, environmental permitting, and construction-phase compliance monitoring - helping SFPUC move projects forward while maintaining alignment with state and federal regulatory requirements. Led by Stantec's Environmental Services team in the Bay Area, with support from the Water team, the work will focus on navigating evolving regulatory frameworks, reducing project risk, and supporting responsible project delivery.
Buffalo leading the way in NYS construction infrastructure projects. Buffalo, New York, is on the cusp of a transformative project: replacing the Scajaquada Expressway with a parkway and boulevard. This initiative, spearheaded by the Greater Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council (GBNRTC) in partnership with Stantec, aims to mend the divisions created by the expressway and revitalize a historic greenway envisioned by Frederick Law Olmsted. The plan focuses on reducing the number of travel lanes and introducing green spaces, bicycle paths, and pedestrian walkways. The current expressway has negatively impacted the mobility and overall quality of life in the neighborhoods it bisects. Data reveals that most local trips are short, and the expressway primarily serves suburban commuters. By shifting the focus to local needs, the project seeks to improve connectivity and enhance the urban experience for residents. The proposed design includes reducing travel lanes from four to two and creating a multiway boulevard with both local and central lanes. This will facilitate smoother traffic flow while accommodating local access. The plan also prioritizes the restoration of Scajaquada Creek, aiming to enhance the natural environment and create a more sustainable urban landscape. Beyond traffic and environmental considerations, the project emphasizes community integration. Upgrading intersections, improving connecting roadways, and establishing mobility hubs are integral to the plan. These improvements will create a more cohesive and accessible city for all residents. By reframing the planning process with a local perspective and utilizing data to address traffic concerns, the project strives to establish a shared vision. This vision encompasses various aspects of urban life, including health, equity, recreation, and environmental quality, ensuring a holistic approach to urban development. The Scajaquada Expressway transformation represents a significant step towards a more connected, sustainable, and vibrant Buffalo. By prioritizing community needs and environmental restoration, this project promises to enhance the quality of life for current and future generations. Construction begins on luxury Four Seasons Lake Austin waterfront community. September 25, 2026 Luxury condominium project will bring active leisure lifestyle to stunning lake-side site located 20 minutes outside of downtown Austin Construction is underway on the Four Seasons Lake Austin Private Residences, an ultra-luxury residential community located 20 minutes from downtown Austin. Serving as the executive architect, Stantec partnered with Handel Architects and DBOX to design the lakeside development, offering residents the comforts and amenities of high-end condominium living alongside a sublime waterfront setting. Across 13 terraced mid-rise buildings, with a total footprint of 1.56 million square feet, the Residences will include 189 condominiums and 28 private villas. Residents will enjoy a lifestyle of active leisure, with access to a spa and wellness center, on-site fine dining, a private waterfront with a 42-slip boat dock, and a sports complex that offers a golf simulator, and courts for basketball, pickleball, and other paddle sports. Appreciation for the striking site overlooking the meandering bank of Lake Austin was central to the design team's approach. A deep understanding of the location's unique topography, sightlines, and existing ecology has resulted in a design that will feel thoughtfully connected to its setting. The project is expected to be completed by early 2030.
