Requirements
  • A Juris Doctor is required.
  • West Virginia Bar membership or eligibility is required.
  • At least five years of substantial experience in a law firm or in-house legal department is required, including substantive experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other instruments documenting arrangements and transactions between parties.
  • Knowledge of the general operations of corporations, limited liability companies, and joint ventures is required.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time is required.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with administration, department heads, medical staff, and other hospital personnel is required.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as an Associate General Counsel of WVUHS.
  • Serve as the on-site General Counsel of Camden-Clark Health Services and its subsidiaries, with assistance from other legal and executive personnel as needed.
  • Serve as an integrated component of WVUHS's Legal Services Department and CCHS's Leadership Team.
  • Oversee the on-site, day-to-day legal affairs of CCHS and its subsidiaries, including risk management, contracts, insurance, and day-to-day legal issues.
  • Assist WVUHS Litigation Counsel with malpractice, employment, and other lawsuits against CCHS and its subsidiaries, and handle such matters directly when appropriate.
  • Assist Associate General Counsels, AVPs, the DGC, and the CLO of WVUHS Legal Services with transactions involving CCHS and its subsidiaries, and handle such matters directly when appropriate.
  • Oversee medical staff, credentialing, and licensing matters involving CCHS and its subsidiaries.
  • Assist the Corporate Compliance Officers of WVUHS and CCHS with compliance matters.
  • Select or participate in selecting outside counsel to advise and represent CCHS and its subsidiaries.
  • Oversee or participate in overseeing outside counsel.
  • Stay up to date on developments in the law.
  • Develop and implement an educational program for Boards of Directors, officers, and employees regarding applicable laws and their legal duties and responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties requested by the Chief Legal Officer of WVUHS and the President and Chief Executive Officer of CCMC.

  • Knowledge of academic medical center operations is preferred.
