Responsibilities
  • Teach the selected undergraduate and/or graduate McGill Writing Centre course or courses during Winter 2027.
  • Design structured course materials and learning activities based on the course description and target audience.
  • Foster learning by establishing a positive classroom dynamic, involving learners in activities, and managing student participation and group interactions.
  • Use a variety of technologies to support student learning.
  • Keep abreast of advances in the field of expertise relevant to the course.
  • Carry out course lecturer duties and obligations respectfully and in a timely manner.
  • Work with Faculty of Arts and University administration to address class management issues constructively and in a timely manner.
Desired Qualifications
  • For WCOM 203 and WCOM 333, an MFA in Creative Writing is preferred; a graduate degree in a closely related field is also acceptable.
  • For WCOM 203 and WCOM 333, awards and honours for published creative work are an asset; for WCOM 333, awards and honours for published creative nonfiction, including literary journalism, are an asset.
  • For WCOM 206, a PhD is preferred; experience teaching written communication to students with a wide range of English-language abilities and experience teaching engineering or science students are assets.
  • For WCOM 250 and WCOM 255, a PhD is preferred.
  • For WCOM 314, a PhD is preferred. Training in teaching science communication or science-focused journalism and training in communicating research findings to broad audiences are strong assets. An established career as a science writer or science journalist is an asset. Experience teaching written and oral communication to science students, using and supporting students’ use of current digital platforms including social media, and creating podcast or radio programs are assets.
  • For WCOM 642, a PhD is preferred.
  • For WCOM 645, a PhD is preferred.
  • For WCOM 652, a PhD is preferred.
  • For WCOM 661 and WCOM 662, a PhD is preferred.

Club M&A and McGill's Dobson Centre launch acquisition programme as $218B in Canadian businesses set for ownership transition

Club M&A Canada and McGill's Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship have opened registration for their first Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition programme. The intensive four-day course, running 27–30 October in Montreal, targets professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs interested in acquiring existing small or medium-sized businesses. The programme addresses a significant succession challenge in Canada. According to the Business Development Bank of Canada, nearly one in five Canadian businesses will undergo ownership transition within five years, representing over $300 billion in business revenue. Marc Deegan, founder of R33 Ventures, will serve as programme director. The curriculum covers developing investment theses, target evaluation, financial and legal considerations, acquisition financing, and post-acquisition transition. Instructors include transaction professionals, lawyers, tax specialists, investors, and entrepreneurs with acquisition experience. Admission is by application, with no prior M&A experience required.
