  • Working knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering practices and operational readiness, including service-level indicators, service-level objectives, error budgets, incident response and review, production readiness, and on-call quality.
  • Experience with testing and observability in cloud-native environments, such as shaping or supporting load, performance, and chaos testing and working with metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerts.
  • Ability to translate systems data about reliability and performance to prioritize and evaluate work and explain complex technical concepts and tradeoffs to engineers and non-technical partners.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to Site Reliability Engineering teams, partner teams, and senior leadership regarding tradeoffs and progress.
  • Support for and understanding of the value of journalistic independence and commitment to the company’s mission.
Responsibilities
  • Build and communicate the product roadmap for Site Reliability Engineering-led reliability programs, including operational maturity, Always On signals, load and chaos testing, and observability, aligning them with newsroom and product priorities.
  • Turn ambiguous reliability problems into concrete products and engagements by conducting discovery with engineers and leaders, defining scope and success metrics, and treating Site Reliability Engineering collaborations as internal consulting engagements with clear contracts and exit criteria.
  • Shape the direction of testing and observability platforms by prioritizing high-value scenarios such as breaking news alerts, elections, and major launches.
  • Ensure that load and chaos tests map to customer journeys and connect results directly to service-level objectives, dashboards, and runbooks.
  • Use incident metrics, test outcomes, and reliability scores to refine roadmaps and report on impact.
  • Report to the Vice President of Product, Developer Experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with Site Reliability Engineering, Platform, or Infrastructure teams, especially in enablement or engagement models such as embedded or consulting-style projects and Always Ready-like programs.
  • Experience defining or scaling operational readiness frameworks and production readiness reviews and driving adoption of standards across multiple teams.
  • Experience operating observability platforms at scale; the team uses Datadog, but experience with any enterprise observability tool is acceptable.
  • Experience with cloud providers and Kubernetes, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure, to understand reliability and observability tradeoffs and hold informed conversations with engineers operating those systems.

Bolt CEO defends firing entire HR team as EEOC chair backs discrimination lawsuit against NYT

Bolt CEO Ryan Breslow sparked controversy at the Fortune Workplace Innovation Summit by revealing he fired his entire HR team, claiming they "created problems that didn't exist". The comments came one month after laying off roughly 30% of staff and amid reports of equity-for-salary arrangements and unpaid contractors, which Breslow denied. The summit also featured Andrea Lucas, chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, defending her agency's lawsuit against The New York Times for allegedly discriminating against a white male editor. Lucas rejected suggestions the case was politically motivated, stating "civil rights should be for everyone". Other summit discussions focused on AI's potential to reshape up to 50% of work hours within five years, according to McKinsey, alongside workplace culture topics including four-day workweeks and pay transparency.
