About the job

Requirements
  • At least 15 years of professional experience working with employer health care benefits in health and benefits consulting and/or a client- or consultant-facing role within a health care solution or vendor.
  • Strong management experience, including the ability to build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team and foster continuous improvement, professional development, and accountability.
  • Deep relationships and credibility across one or more top consulting or brokerage firms, ideally from a consultant-facing consultant relations role rather than solely a consulting background.
  • Experience designing or operating a named-account or portfolio-ownership model with clear accountability per account or territory in a relationship-management or sales function.
  • Ability to influence client and consultant perspectives and decisions with a thoughtful, data-driven approach supported by practical experience.
  • Experience in consultative sales or business development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to convey complex information to diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Clear understanding of self-funded medical plans and the relationships among health plans or third-party administrators, health care providers, and plan sponsors.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team, both in external-facing and behind-the-scenes contexts.
  • Comfort working in a high-growth, fast-changing environment; organization, adaptability, diligence, and self-motivation.
  • Passion for Lantern's mission and collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
Responsibilities
  • Execute Lantern's consultant relations strategy through ownership of major consulting and brokerage house relationships.
  • Build deep, accountable relationships at national and local market levels, with clear ownership of each major house, generally capped at one to two houses per person, to influence intellectual-capital perspectives and drive local business referrals.
  • Stay embedded in active deals alongside Sales and Solutions Consulting throughout the sales lifecycle, tailoring deal strategy and using consultant and brokerage relationships to gain insight and influence decision factors rather than relying on standalone outreach.
  • Develop content for consultants generally and tailor it to individual firms when relevant, in partnership with product marketing and sales enablement.
  • Build marketplace awareness of the category, including surgery centers of excellence and cancer support, and educate the market on evaluating solutions in this space.
  • Improve Lantern's win rate with each consulting and brokerage firm and the quality of opportunities they refer.
  • Build dedicated coverage in currently underserved segments, including Texas and the Southeast, and public sector and labor.
  • Partner with Sales and Client Success to route reactive, non-strategic escalations outside Consultant Relations and preserve capacity for proactive house management.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within and outside the consultant relations mandate and determine appropriate responses.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with sales, solutions consulting, client success, analytics, clinical, marketing, network, member services, and other functions to support a coordinated approach.
  • Build the account-ownership model, metrics, supporting processes, and roles and responsibilities for the function based on business needs, and remain accountable for the function's success.
  • Ensure named account plans and coverage are built and executed across major houses, escalations are routed appropriately, and results against the plan are regularly reported to the Commercial Leadership Team.
  • Measure relationship health and account coverage across major consulting and brokerage houses; deal win rate and quality for opportunities with Consultant Relations involvement; net annual contract value growth across new logos and existing-business expansion; escalation load; and engagement and impact on qualified opportunities.
  • Develop a durable, outcome-based measurement framework for the team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five to ten years as a health and benefits consultant at a top consulting or brokerage firm.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience using medical claims data to project savings or program impact.
  • Knowledge of the broader ecosystem of point solutions and health care disruptors selling to self-funded employers.
  • Experience building outcome-based rather than activity-based performance metrics for a relationship-management or sales team.
  • Ability to adopt a continuous-improvement mindset and contribute actively to the larger Commercial team's processes and procedures.
  • Experience in an early-stage or growth-stage business.

Marathon Health and Lantern partner to cut specialty care costs with integrated model

Marathon Health and Lantern have partnered to integrate primary and specialty care for employers and labour organisations, aiming to reduce specialty care costs. The collaboration connects Marathon's primary care model with Lantern's specialty care platform, allowing Marathon clients to purchase Lantern services directly. A pilot programme focusing on orthopaedic and surgical care showed a 37%-100% increase in Lantern referrals, a 47% rise in completed or avoided surgeries, and 53% average savings compared to network rates. Marathon providers will identify patients needing specialists and initiate referrals, whilst Lantern Care Advocates guide members through specialist selection and coordination. The integrated solution launches this year for shared customers, initially targeting orthopaedic surgery, a major employer cost driver.
