About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to product direction and vision.
  • Strong understanding of agentic AI concepts, including multi-agent orchestration, tool use, memory and context management, retrieval-augmented generation, and harness or loop engineering; understanding of classical machine learning is a plus.
  • Hands-on production experience with modern agentic AI frameworks, including taking at least one agentic system from design into production and owning operational capabilities such as evaluation, observability, FinOps, failure analysis, and support.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, software architecture, API design, testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery, and cloud-native deployment.
  • Strong judgment in a fast-moving field, including distinguishing durable capabilities from hype, reasoning about trade-offs under uncertainty, and justifying decisions to engineers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to become productive quickly in an unfamiliar codebase and domain, working autonomously with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and ship production-grade agentic AI systems that handle data-driven underwriting and portfolio management tasks end-to-end, taking accountability from design through production operation.
  • Build and evolve evaluation and observability capabilities, including test harnesses, offline and online evaluations, regression suites, tracing, and fallbacks, so safety, reliability, cost, and latency are measurable and controlled in production.
  • Work directly with underwriters and portfolio managers to understand commercial needs and translate them into product and technical decisions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience developing industrialized machine learning applications and services.
  • Experience deploying AI systems in a regulated or high-consequence environment and applying model risk or AI governance frameworks to non-deterministic systems.
  • Experience taking a production platform through security reviews and remediation and strengthening security controls to meet recognized standards such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001; penetration testing experience is a plus.
  • Experience building platform products that expose reusable capabilities through well-defined APIs and interfaces, enabling multiple teams or workflows to build on them.
  • Experience and knowledge of the insurance market, including the Lloyd's market and specialty insurance.
  • Understanding the importance of market compliance and core regulatory requirements.
  • Prior experience delivering in a contract, consulting, or embedded-expert capacity, including handover to permanent teams.
  • Recognized external contribution to the field, such as open-source AI tooling, publications, or conference speaking.

About the company

Ki Insurance runs a digital, algorithmic underwriting platform for the London market. It collects quotes from multiple capacity partners in one place and offers follow capacity—additional insurance based on a lead quote and risk information—through its network, including Aspen Digital Syndicate 4711, Beazley Syndicates 623 and 2623, Ki Syndicate 1618, and Travelers Syndicate 5000. Machine learning helps improve underwriting efficiency and accuracy, enabling brokers and underwriters to compare and attach more capacity. Unlike firms that provide a single quote from one carrier, Ki combines several capacity quotes and supports risk sharing with partners, backed by substantial investor capital (Blackstone and Fairfax) and a high Gross Written Premium of £834 million in 2022, making it the largest insurtech in London. Its goal is to simplify insurance placement, expand capacity, and better manage risk in the London market by scaling digital underwriting and partner networks.

What believers are saying

  • Ki reported H1 2026 adjusted profit before tax of $75.6 million, up 22%.
  • FY2025 managed premium reached $1.11 billion, with $205.5 million from partners.
  • Jacques Bonneau’s July 2025 chair appointment strengthens governance for growth.

What critics are saying

  • Ki depends on Lloyd’s follow business, exposing it to broker and syndicate substitution.
  • TMK, QBE, Beazley, Aspen, and Travelers can reprioritize capacity if returns deteriorate.
  • If Ki’s underwriting edge compresses, Fairfax owns a capital-heavy, easily copied platform.

What makes Ki unique

  • Ki’s algorithmic follow underwriting binds broker quotes across six Lloyd’s syndicates instantly.
  • TMK joined in April 2026, validating Ki’s digital distribution with fifth capacity partner.
  • Standalone from January 2025, Ki kept Blackstone and Fairfax capital backing.
