View

La Scuola International School runs private PK-8 programs that blend Italian language immersion with an IB curriculum using a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach. It uses inquiry- and project-based learning, starting with about 80% Italian instruction in the early grades and gradually moving toward English as students mature, aligned with IB’s PYP/MYP frameworks. Differentiators include its unique combination of Reggio Emilia pedagogy, IB accreditation, Italian-language immersion, and campuses across the Bay Area with a forthcoming Milan campus. The goal is to raise globally minded, bilingual students who connect Italian heritage with international perspectives and are prepared for continued IB study and responsible citizenship.

What believers are saying

  • The Mission District campus opened February 2026 and completed June 29, 2026.
  • 2024-2025 revenue reached $22.2 million, with tuition supplying 84% of funds.
  • Milan enrollment began for preschool through grade 8, extending the brand into Europe.

What critics are saying

  • Mission campus completion in June 2026 added heavy fixed costs before Milan enrollment stabilizes.
  • 2025-2026 tuition tops $50,550, limiting demand in a soft Bay Area private-school market.
  • Milan opens in 2026-27 while IB candidacy remains pending, risking execution strain.

What makes La Scuola International School unique

  • Reggio Emilia plus IB plus Italian immersion remains rare, especially through grade 8.
  • Four campuses now span San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Milan, and Mission District.
  • Nonprofit branding and 7:1 ratios support premium positioning versus typical Bay Area privates.
