FIS acquires AI-native core banking startup OpenCoreOS months after launch

FIS has acquired OpenCoreOS, the AI-native core banking startup founded by former Zafin CEO Al Karim Somji. The deal completed in March, though financial terms were not disclosed. OpenCoreOS launched publicly in October 2024 after operating in stealth. The platform was designed as an AI-native core modernisation system that could run across multiple cloud providers simultaneously. Somji has joined FIS as president of enterprise platforms. Analysts suggest FIS bought the technology blueprint and team rather than an established business, as OpenCoreOS had not yet reached general availability. The acquisition reflects a broader trend of established banking technology providers buying newer platforms rather than building them internally. FIS already operates several core banking systems, including Modern Banking Platform launched in 2020. Analysts expect further consolidation in the sector, noting that whilst banks benefit from newer technology backed by large providers, each acquisition removes an independent alternative from the market.

ANA says FIS campaign generated $26M in contract value.

ANA says FIS campaign generated $26M in contract value. ANA's June 4, 2026 announcement of the B2 Awards said FIS's Money in Harmony campaign, with agency Sid Lee USA, generated $26 million in attributable contract value and a 57% increase in demand and lead-generation effectiveness. Business Wire's June 9 version of the same release repeated those two figures but omitted a 700% ROI claim tied to a $6 million media investment that appeared in ANA's original release. The Association of National Advertisers announced winners of its 2026 B2 Awards on June 4, 2026, naming FIS and agency partner Sid Lee USA the Best in Show recipient for a campaign called Money in Harmony. ANA described the effort as a video marketing campaign about the financial challenges businesses face without integrated fintech solutions, distributed across connected TV, LinkedIn, and YouTube. What ANA and Business Wire reported about performance. ANA's release stated the campaign lifted demand and lead-generation effectiveness by 57% and produced $26 million in attributable contract value. ANA's release additionally claimed a 700% return on a $6 million media investment. Neither release explains how the attributable contract value figure was calculated. Business Wire distributed its own version of the release on June 9, 2026. That version repeated the 57% figure and the $26 million contract value figure but left out the 700% return claim and the media spend figure found in ANA's release. Neither organization has explained the discrepancy between the two versions. Other award results and program details. Both releases said Code and Theory topped all agencies with 16 awards, trailed by Park & Battery with 13 and Mower with 7. Neither source clarifies the reason for this difference. ANA said the honors were handed out at the 2026 ANA Masters of B2B Marketing Conference in Chicago, marking the program's 50th year. Community and Regional banks are choosing FIS to accelerate modernization.

Community and Regional banks are choosing FIS to accelerate modernization. September 10, 2026 * FIS delivered record first-half core wins across its community and regional banking segment, representing millions of accounts added, with strong momentum in account origination, digital banking and core modernization. * Wins spanned competitive evaluations, platform consolidations, expansion within existing FIS relationships and migrations onto modern FIS technology. * Community and regional banks are increasingly looking to simplify their technology environments and modernize across the customer lifecycle rather than adding standalone point solutions. * FIS has AI capabilities in production and pilot across digital and core banking, including Policy Optimizer 2.0, AgentEdge and the Financial Crimes AI Agent developed through its strategic partnership with Anthropic. JACKSONVILLE, Fla., September 10, 2026 - FIS(R)(NYSE: FIS), a global leader in financial technology, today announced record first-half core wins across its community and regional banking business, representing millions of accounts added and reflecting growing demand from institutions seeking to modernize more of their banking ecosystem through a connected technology strategy. The wins span account origination, digital banking and core modernization, and include both new client relationships and expansion within existing FIS clients. Community and regional banks are operating in an environment shaped by rising fraud threats, accelerating payments activity, increasing technology complexity and continued pressure to deliver modern digital experiences. As these demands converge, institutions are placing greater emphasis on simplifying their technology environments and connecting capabilities across the banking lifecycle rather than managing multiple standalone solutions. The first-half wins reflect that shift, with institutions selecting FIS through formal technology evaluations, expanding existing relationships into new capabilities, modernizing legacy technology foundations and consolidating vendor relationships through a more connected platform approach. FIS supports these institutions with solutions spanning account origination, digital banking, core modernization, payments, fraud and financial crimes, helping banks modernize at their own pace while maintaining continuity across their technology stack. The momentum also points to continued differentiation for FIS in the market, including recognition in Gartner Magic Quadrant. Among the publicly disclosed account origination wins is Open Bank, a Los Angeles-based community bank publicly traded as OP Bancorp (Nasdaq: OPBK), which selected FIS Origination Suite as part of its digital transformation strategy. Open Bank represents a broader pattern of institutions seeking technology partners that can support modernization across multiple areas of the banking relationship rather than addressing individual challenges in isolation. "Regional and community banks are navigating one of the most dynamic operating environments we've seen in years," said Melissa Cullen, President, Community and Regional Bank Office. "They are balancing growth objectives with fraud prevention, customer expectations and operational efficiency initiatives, all while managing increasingly complex technology environments. What many institutions are telling us is that they are looking for a partner that can help connect those priorities across the business, rather than approaching them as separate challenges." Technology innovation remains an important component of that strategy. FIS continues to expand AI capabilities across its banking portfolio, including Policy Optimizer 2.0, which helps institutions evaluate and refine credit policies through AI-driven insights, and the Financial Crimes AI Agent developed through its strategic partnership with Anthropic that is currently in pilot with core banking clients. FIS is also continuing to advance AgentEdge, its AI-powered banking agent framework designed to help financial institutions deploy intelligent assistants and automation capabilities across banking workflows, as part of its broader AI strategy for banking. These capabilities help institutions apply advanced technologies to improve decision-making and strengthen fraud prevention while continuing broader modernization efforts. FIS serves thousands of community and regional banking clients through a dedicated business organization focused on helping institutions modernize, grow and compete in a rapidly evolving financial services environment. The first-half wins underscore continued demand for connected technology strategies that enable banks to modernize across multiple areas of their business while working with a trusted long-term partner. FIS launches its Embedded Banking Platform to meet bank demand.

FIS launches its Embedded Banking Platform to meet bank demand. As embedded services take on added importance in payments and banking, financial institutions are adding the products at a faster clip, presenting payments processors with new business opportunities. On Thursday, the processor FIS launched FIS Embedded Banking Platform, which it says is its first embedded-finance platform designed for banks. With the new platform, financial institutions can offer a range of services to corporate customers, using the software the banks have already adopted and routinely use, according to FIS. This is an expectation clients have expressed, as they prefer not to switch to separate platforms for a range of services, FIS says. With the new service, bank customers can open accounts and transfer funds within software they already use, the processor adds. "Banks' customers want banking built into the software they use to run their business every day," says Jon Briggs, global head of embedded solutions and money movement at Jacksonville, Fla.-based FIS, in a statement. Banks have similar expectations. The general trend toward embedded services in finance creates convenience for businesses but has led some observers to wonder whether financial institutions can maintain control of services they have traditionally offered, such as payments. FIS says its new service can allay that apprehension. "Embedded Banking Platform lets banks meet... expectations and stay at the center of the relationship, while maintaining the regulatory control and customer ownership that define traditional banking," notes Briggs, in a statement. To leverage the new service, banks work with a vertical software company or fintech, weaving their own accounts and services into the partner's product, FIS says. With this arrangement, the company notes in a summation of the service, "Corporate customers get an integrated banking experience without leaving the software they use daily. The bank keeps the customer relationship. The software partner owns the user experience. FIS powers the infrastructure." FIS recorded $2.48 billion in second-quarter revenue, up 6.1% from the same period last year. The company's payments unit, the larger of two divisions at FIS, grew at 6.4%, to $1.48 billion in revenue.

FIS launches Embedded Banking Platform, letting banks deliver accounts and payments inside business software.

FIS launches Embedded Banking Platform, letting banks deliver accounts and payments inside business software. * Payments * 03.09.2026 02:16 pm FIS(R), a global leader in financial services technology, today announced the launch of FIS(R) Embedded Banking Platform, its first embedded finance offering built specifically for banks. The platform enables U.S. banks to offer banking services directly within the business software their corporate customers use daily. Corporate customers increasingly expect to do their banking natively inside the software they use to run their business every day, rather than switching to a separate banking portal. Embedded Banking Platform makes that possible, letting a bank's customers open accounts and move money directly within their existing software, backed by bank-grade technology that keeps those transactions secure and compliant. How It Works Banks leverage Embedded Banking Platform from FIS, partner with a vertical software provider or fintech, and embed their own accounts and payment capabilities into that partner's product. Corporate customers get an integrated banking experience without leaving the software they use daily. The bank keeps the customer relationship. The software partner owns the user experience. FIS powers the infrastructure. Banks can offer Embedded Banking Platform through APIs, SDKs, embeddable widgets, or white-labeled applications, depending on the software partner's preference. Why It Matters Banks maintain full customer ownership and regulatory control because accounts live on the bank's balance sheet, not on a virtual ledger managed by a third party, which also means simpler compliance, cleaner regulatory positioning and more durable infrastructure. Instead of relying solely on their own direct sales, banks can reach corporate customers through the software those customers already use to run their business. Embedded finance is moving banking into the software businesses use every day. FIS Embedded Banking Platform is designed to keep banks central to that shift, extending the reach of banks across the full money lifecycle, from the deposits and accounts they hold to the payments they move and the capital they put to work, wherever their customers choose to bank. "Banks' customers want banking built into the software they use to run their business every day," said Jon Briggs, Global Head of Embedded Solutions and Money Movement at FIS. "Embedded Banking Platform lets banks meet those expectations and stay at the center of the relationship, while maintaining the regulatory control and customer ownership that define traditional banking."
