Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent experience is required.
  • A current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • At least 4 years of clinical experience relevant to the patient population is required.
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a lead, supervisory, or equivalent capacity is required.
  • Knowledge and skills in the specialty area are required.
  • New Leader Experience certification must be obtained within one year.
  • The role requires people management, critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, analytical, and flexibility skills.
  • The role requires the ability to balance clinical skills with supervisory authority and practice according to department and professional standards and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and administer staff day to day for a unit or assigned area, including timecards, schedules, new-hire readiness and processing, staff full-time-equivalent status changes, staffing levels, staff development and education, corrective actions, portfolio audits, education completion, and timely termination processing.
  • Plan and implement nursing schedules, policies, procedures, and services for the assigned area.
  • Recruit, select, orient, train, and retain clinical staff.
  • Ensure nurses remain current in competencies, assessments, licensure, certifications, and annual training.
  • Provide coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities for clinical staff.
  • Provide direct patient care when needed.
  • Drive accountability for adherence to and improvement of patient care quality.
  • Coordinate patient care services with patients, staff, physician leadership, and other departments.
  • Manage departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, contracts, and vendor relations.
  • Determine and justify needs for systems, equipment, and supplies; monitor usage and oversee working order and stock supplies.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental quality and process-improvement initiatives with the director.
  • Seek staff input and oversee implementation of changes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and skill mix on each shift, and schedule staff based on census.
  • Perform functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience in the relevant area of practice is preferred.
  • Three years of supervisory experience is preferred.
