Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of an accredited vocational program and five years of journey-level facilities experience, including two years of related supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential elements of the job.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer and related software programs to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Current Washington State Driver's License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
  • Must pass background security check.
Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of assigned staff and develops work performance measurements and standards.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and makes recommendations regarding personnel issues, such as hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Schedules and approves leave requests.
  • Responsible for facilities staff training in such areas as safety, electrical, HVAC, pneumatics, controls, and refrigeration.
  • Assures staff adherence to safety rules, safety manual, other regulations, procedures, and risk prevention.
  • Maintains record keeping related to all job functions including work order requests, work sheets, preventive maintenance, equipment, facilities, inventory, energy, utilities, purchasing, operational resources, and other computerized building automation systems, Fire alarm systems, Security systems, and Energy Management System.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and plans remodeling, and construction project needs with affected departments, facilities staff, and contractors.
  • Directs the operation, testing and oversight of multiple building automation systems, emergency system testing, Fire alarm systems, Security systems, and Energy Management Systems.
  • Directs and oversees the troubleshooting of facilities systems and components, i.e., electrical, controls, pneumatic, computer, and security systems.
  • Oversees, guides, directs, and controls all electrical work, by staff or contractors, within Thurston County facilities as required by the State and City ordinances.
  • Maintains quality assurance for all work performed by staff and contractors within the facilities.
  • Work with Elected Officials and Appointed Directors on issues related to their department’s needs.
  • Performs purchasing of facilities maintenance equipment and supplies; obtains bids and maintains inventory.
  • Assists with budget preparation.
  • Manages a preventive maintenance program including equipment replacement scheduling recommendations, filter, lubrications, and equipment observations; emergency systems testing, safety equipment management; and general mechanical and electrical equipment activities.
  • Participates as a key member of the energy conservation team; proposes strategies, equipment/schedule/operating changes.
  • Manage the application of pesticides in County owned buildings per the Counties Integrated Pest Management Policy.
  • Responds to after hour's emergency call outs as part of the on-call rotation with other technicians. Provides technical assistance to staff and may perform duties of the Facilities Manager.
