Requirements
  • The candidate must have advanced layout knowledge, including the use of Simon forms, anchor-bolt layout, and material takeoff from drawings.
  • The candidate must understand safety hazards related to building work and safely use or operate work-related tools and equipment.
  • The candidate must be able to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • The candidate must be able to perform repetitive use of the hands, arms, and legs; maintain hand-eye coordination; and communicate safely through hearing, comprehension, and speech.
  • The candidate must be able to perform sedentary to heavy work and operate electric, gas, and pneumatic hand and power tools.
  • The candidate must be able to climb and maintain balance on steel or wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • The candidate must be able to frequently grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects.
  • The candidate must be able to perform prolonged bending, twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, overhead reaching, squatting, pushing, pulling, standing, and lifting.
  • The candidate must be able to walk on uneven, muddy, rocky, loose, or soft surfaces and may need to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.
  • The candidate must communicate effectively with management, supervisors, and field workers.
  • The candidate must have reading and writing comprehension sufficient to give and receive work and safety-policy directions.
  • The candidate must be able to use mathematics and complete calculations, make decisions, concentrate amid distractions, and examine and remember details.
  • The candidate must have leadership and motivational skills.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate carpenter workers to ensure work is performed safely, correctly, and on time.
  • Create sketches relating to the details of work to be completed.
  • Plan jobs, ensure timelines are respected, and obtain necessary resources.
  • Inspect the quality of work to ensure standards and specifications are met.
  • Assist workers with their duties and resolve problems.
  • Interpret and enforce company policies and safety regulations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and sketches and complete reports.
  • Build and set forms, use a level instrument, tie rebar, build scaffolding, perform finish carpentry, read a tape or ruler, set screeds, install batter boards, and operate hand and power tools.
  • Assist other craft workers as needed.
