Requirements
  • Must be qualified by education and experience in the care of the perioperative patient.
  • Must have at least 5 years of current experience as a perioperative registered nurse in an acute care hospital operating room or multidisciplinary ambulatory surgery center.
  • Must demonstrate capabilities, competencies, and education in formulating individual perioperative treatment plans and providing skilled intraoperative nursing care.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to direct, monitor, and evaluate nursing care provided by nursing staff.
  • Previous Charge Registered Nurse or related management experience is required.
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • A State of California Registered Nurse license is required.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification must be obtained before completion of orientation and independent assignment.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Director, Supervisors, and Charge Nurses in planning, goal setting, department budget development, supply and equipment coordination, and staffing, including recruitment and retention.
  • Coordinate with Educational Services on staff orientation, training, education, and care or service delivery.
  • In the absence of the Surgical Services Clinical Director, interface with the Coordinator for Cardiothoracic/Vascular Surgery to prioritize tasks related to staffing concerns or problems.
  • Supervise the department's operations and remain accountable for assigned tasks twenty-four hours a day.
  • Serve as a resource and role model to staff in resolving patient-care concerns and occurrences.
  • Participate in direct patient-care service delivery, safety awareness, supplies, equipment, computer software applications, and customer-service concerns.
  • Ensure staff receive appropriate orientation and training and maintain competency for the care or service provided.
  • Support staff through training, coaching, development, performance evaluation, policy and procedure enforcement, and counseling or corrective action when necessary.
  • Support quality performance initiatives by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, collecting and analyzing quality and performance-improvement data, assisting with future performance-improvement objectives and quality initiatives, and developing or revising department policies and procedures.
  • Support financial viability by monitoring expenses, supplies, inventory, revenue, utilization, and productivity in assigned cost centers and executing Lean concepts.
  • Work closely with internal and external department managers on day-to-day system efficiency and effectiveness tasks as a member of the Nursing Leadership Team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Current knowledge and experience with sterile processing standards and regulations.
  • CNOR certification preferred upon hire and required within 18 months of the start date.
  • BSN or MSN preferred.
