Technology & Innovation 21/08/2026 05:22 Tanium reappoints co-founder Orion Hindawi as CEO to drive next chapter of growth. Company to focus on deepening its Autonomous IT capabilities, further expanding AI offerings across its portfolio, and strengthening customer and partner engagement EMERYVILLE, Calif.-BUSINESS WIRE- Tanium, a leader in Autonomous IT, today announced that Co-Founder and Executive Chairman Orion Hindawi has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Dan Streetman is stepping down as CEO and as a member of the Board after leading Tanium for the last three years, during which time Tanium scaled its go-to-market operations and secured strong industry analyst recognition for innovation within the Tanium platform. Streetman will continue to advise Tanium as part of the transition and co-founder David Hindawi will return to the role of Chairman of the Board. With this foundation in place, this transition positions Tanium to deepen its Autonomous IT capabilities and further expand AI offerings across its portfolio and strengthen customer and partner engagement. The Hindawis co-founded Tanium in 2007 to build the central nervous system of enterprise security, giving organizations unified visibility and control over their endpoints. During his prior tenure as CEO from 2016 to 2023, Orion Hindawi delivered significant growth and built the technical architecture that today underpins one of the most trusted platforms in enterprise security - relied on by Fortune 500 companies, global financial institutions, defense agencies, and healthcare organizations worldwide. As one of the pioneering architects of enterprise-scale endpoint security and management, Hindawi is perfectly positioned to lead Tanium through this next important phase of growth. "Tanium has built something genuinely rare - a platform trusted by the world's most demanding organizations, with the technical depth to lead the next generation of enterprise IT," said Orion Hindawi. "AI has made what we do more critical than ever, and Tanium is the platform every organization will rely on as threats grow more sophisticated, and the pace of change intensifies. We have already embedded AI across how we build and operate, as evidenced by Atlas, our autonomous operating system that was developed and released in a fraction of the time that would previously have been required. As we push further, I look forward to working closely with the talented Tanium management team to capture the meaningful opportunities ahead by delivering more value for our customers and partners." "On behalf of everyone at Tanium, I want to express our deep gratitude to Dan for his leadership over the past few years," added Hindawi. "Dan led Tanium with integrity, steadiness and genuine care for this company, its customers, and its people. His contributions have strengthened Tanium and set the stage for the next chapter of growth. We thank him for his remarkable service." "It's been a privilege to serve as CEO over the past three years and I'm proud of all we achieved, including improving operational discipline and supporting the important work of our customers, who are the most innovative and security conscious organizations in the world," said Streetman. "I could not be more grateful to Orion, David and the Tanium Board for the trust they placed in me to lead this special company." About Tanium Tanium is the Autonomous IT company. Tanium reinstates co-founder Orion Hindawi as CEO amid ai-driven market shift.

Tanium reinstates co-founder Orion Hindawi as CEO amid ai-driven market shift. SaasRise - Aug 21, 2026 Tanium announced that co-founder Orion Hindawi is returning as chief executive, replacing Dan Streetman after less than four years. The move comes as the $9 billion cybersecurity SaaS company confronts AI-fueled competitive pressure and prepares for an eventual public offering. Why it matters. Tanium's leadership reset underscores how AI is reshaping the security SaaS market, forcing mature players to double down on autonomous capabilities to stay relevant. For operators, the move highlights the importance of aligning product development with AI trends to protect expansion revenue and maintain high net-retention rates. For investors, the reinstated founder and the CFO's IPO focus suggest that a high-growth, AI-centric narrative could unlock premium valuations in a crowded endpoint-protection space. The shift also raises questions about talent strategy in SaaS firms: trimming R&D headcount while investing heavily in AI talent may test Tanium's ability to deliver on its roadmap without sacrificing innovation speed. If successful, Tanium could set a template for other late-stage private SaaS companies navigating the AI inflection point. Key points. * Tanium reinstates co-founder Orion Hindawi as CEO, replacing Dan Streetman. * Company valued at $9 billion, with ~1,900 employees as of 2025. * Recent R&D layoff of ~35 staff signals a leaner AI-focused development plan. * CFO Marc Levine, hired in 2021, is steering an IPO readiness assessment. * AI integration aims to boost autonomous threat detection and expand ARR. Analysis. The re-appointment of a founder as CEO is a classic play when a SaaS firm faces a strategic inflection point. In Tanium's case, the AI disruption in endpoint security is not just a product upgrade - it's a market-defining shift that can recalibrate the firm's competitive moat. By leveraging AI to automate detection and response, Tanium can move from a traditional licensing model toward a more product-led, usage-based revenue stream, which investors typically reward with higher multiples. Historically, private SaaS companies that have successfully navigated an AI transition - think Snowflake's early adoption of AI for query optimization - have seen their net-retention rates climb above 130%, fueling organic growth that reduces reliance on new logo acquisition. Tanium's challenge will be to translate AI enhancements into measurable expansion revenue without alienating its existing base, which values stability and low false-positive rates. The modest R&D cuts suggest a disciplined approach to resource allocation, but the firm must avoid under-investing in the talent pipeline needed to sustain AI innovation. From an IPO perspective, the market is rewarding AI-centric SaaS narratives, as evidenced by recent high-profile listings that commanded premium valuations. Tanium's founder-led reboot, combined with a CFO experienced in public-market preparation, positions the company to pitch a compelling story: a $9 billion security platform now powered by next-gen AI, poised for scalable, recurring revenue growth. The timing will be critical; launching too early could expose the firm to scrutiny over AI execution, while a delayed IPO might miss the current investor appetite for AI-enabled security solutions. Stakeholders should monitor product rollout milestones, ARR growth curves, and any signals of board composition changes as leading indicators of Tanium's readiness for the public markets.

Tanium brings back cofounder as CEO, cuts 35 jobs amid AI upheaval

Tanium, the $9 billion cybersecurity startup, has reinstated cofounder Orion Hindawi as CEO, replacing Dan Streetman after less than four years. The leadership change comes as the company navigates AI-driven upheaval in the software industry. Hindawi's father and fellow cofounder, David Hindawi, returns as chair, whilst Streetman departs the board. Orion Hindawi previously served as CEO for over 15 years before Streetman's appointment. The company also cut approximately 35 jobs in research and development last week, affecting roughly 2% of its 1,900-strong workforce. Tanium plans to expand its AI offerings and autonomous capabilities. The shake-up follows several executive departures this year. Founded in 2007, Tanium remains private and was last valued at $9 billion in 2020.
