India secures up to $12 billion in investment commitments under Semicon 2.0.

India secures up to $12 billion in investment commitments under Semicon 2.0. September 17, 2026 New Delhi - India has secured investment commitments of $11 billion to $12 billion under Semicon 2.0, the second phase of the country's semiconductor program, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Thursday. Speaking at Semicon India 2026, Vaishnaw said the commitments cover semiconductor equipment, materials, gases, chemicals and substrates, with the investments expected to materialize over the next two to three years. The minister said companies will decide where to locate their semiconductor projects based on factors including policy certainty, government support and the strength of the surrounding ecosystem. "Industry chooses the location depending upon where they feel more comfortable, how much policy certainty they see, what kind of support they see from governments, from the other ecosystem fields," Vaishnaw said. Semicon 2.0, approved with an outlay of Rs 1.27 lakh crore, focuses on chip design, semiconductor equipment and materials, fabrication plants, advanced packaging, research and development, and talent development. At the event, Tata Electronics signed an agreement with Ascendas First Space to develop a 363-acre vendor park aimed at building a supplier ecosystem around its semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat. Tata Electronics also signed agreements with Fujifilm to localize critical semiconductor materials and with JSR Corporation for photoresists and advanced chemicals for the Dholera facility. A recent report said the Semicon 2.0 program could attract about Rs 4 lakh crore in investment and support roughly Rs 2 lakh crore in semiconductor production over the scheme period while strengthening domestic capabilities in design, manufacturing, supply chains and talent. Fiscal incentives under the program include 40% capital expenditure support for silicon fabrication plants on a pari-passu basis and up to 75% combined central and state support for research, development and talent initiatives. JSR opens advanced process solution lab

JSR opens advanced process solution lab. Thu, apr 16, 2026 page9. * JSR opens advanced process solution lab CUSTOMER SUPPORT: The research center would facilitate closer collaboration with chipmakers worldwide to accelerate development of next-generation solutions, JSR said * By Lisa Wang / Staff Reporter, in Hsinchu County JSR Corp yesterday launched an advanced planarization process solutions research center in Hsinchu County's Hukou Township (湖口) to help major semiconductor customers, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電), shorten the development time for new chips. JSR supplies lithography materials, process materials, deposition materials and advanced electronic materials. The new lab would enhance JSR's capability to conduct local material evaluations, strengthen customer support and accelerate development of next-generation chemical-mechanical planarization (CMP) materials, the Tokyo-based company said. Representatives from JSR Corp, Advanced Materials Inc and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co pose for a photograph at a sake barrel breaking ceremony to celebrate the inauguration of an advanced process solution lab in Hsinchu County's Hukou Township yesterday. Photo courtesy of JSR Corp The lab is equipped with advanced CMP equipment from Applied Materials Inc, designed to deliver higher productivity, improved wafer performance and enhanced process control for leading-edge technology nodes, JSR said. The lab would primarily focus on studying and supplying new CMP slurry to TSMC, aligning with the chipmaker's technological shift to the new gate-all-around (GAA) transistor architecture, JSR chairman Hank Hori said at an inauguration ceremony. TSMC has adopted the GAA architecture for its 2-nanometer process and more advanced technology nodes to overcome scaling limitations, a shift that would significantly increase demand for CMP technology due to higher process complexity and new materials, as well as increasing wafer, slurry and pad consumption. "As the world is ushering in the artificial intelligence [AI] era, demand for advanced chips is growing bigger and bigger. That also creates greater challenges for CMP" technology to achieve ultra-high surface flatness," TSMC vice president for advanced tool and module development Simon Jang (章勳明) said at the ceremony. Jang, one of the first CMP engineers at TSMC when he joined the company more than 30 years ago, said the chipmaker has advanced its manufacturing technology to sub-1 nanometer nodes, with Applied Materials supplying CMP equipment and JSR providing slurry. The launch of the new JSR lab follows a trend in which major global semiconductor equipment or material suppliers, such as ASML Holding NV and Lam Research Corp, are localizing operations in the form of research or training centers, Jang said. This trend should significantly shorten TSMC's development time for new technologies and allow it to migrate to next-generation chips faster, as product qualifications can be conducted locally in Taiwan rather than being done at labs in the US or Japan, he said. JSR senior officer Toru Kimura said the company's new lab in Taiwan would "enable closer collaboration and faster development of solutions for advanced semiconductor processes." The company said it would work closely with semiconductor manufacturers worldwide to accelerate the development of next-generation solutions and contribute to the industry's sustainable growth. * Most Popular * 1 Kenting park officer wins international photography award * 2 Large bamboo viper catch in Tainan puzzles bureau * 3 Horse euthanized after winning the Grand National race * 4 Ministry welcomes S Korea's changes to e-arrival system * 5 Buses found using Chinese chips
