Geneva Trading is a global proprietary trader in listed derivatives and other liquid markets, using its own capital to execute trading strategies that provide liquidity across exchanges and asset classes. It operates in areas like OTC energy trading and equity index futures, using advanced technology, high-fidelity data, and strong risk management to target market inefficiencies and price discrepancies. Its business model centers on acting as a liquidity provider to multiple exchanges, supported by professional teams and global offices in Chicago, Dublin, and London. Unlike many firms, Geneva Trading emphasizes a long-standing, entrepreneurial culture and a dedicated environment for risk takers, quants, and sophisticated traders to perform. The company aims to maximize trader and team performance, deliver consistent profitability, and align stakeholder interests through disciplined risk management and teamwork.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Geneva's careers page was updated August 15, 2026, signaling continued active hiring.
  • LinkedIn lists 277 employees, suggesting a meaningful operating scale for a niche prop shop.
  • Thomson's 2026 leadership update implies ongoing investment in systems, operations, and risk controls.

What critics are saying

  • CFTC spoofing penalties and the 2024 CBOT fine keep Geneva under compliance scrutiny.
  • Listed-derivatives profits are execution-sensitive; one bad risk event can erase years of gains.
  • If regulatory or exchange sanctions tighten, Geneva Trading's prop-trading model becomes existentially vulnerable.

What makes Geneva Trading unique

  • Geneva Trading remains founder-led, with Seth Thomson steering technology, operations, and risk management since 2023.
  • Its 1999 Chicago-Dublin footprint supports listed-derivatives execution across multiple exchanges and asset classes.
  • The firm still markets proprietary capital, letting traders pursue high-risk alpha without client constraints.
