About the Job

Requirements

  • Prior experience in management and product development, with a proven track record of technical excellence, execution, delivery, and cooperation.
  • Strong system-level design skills, including mapping technical dependencies and translating complex requirements into execution.
  • Experience in aerospace or aviation design, applying first-principles approaches to mechanical, thermal, and systems-integration challenges.
  • Ability to apply analytical problem-solving skills and engineering fundamentals to create high-quality designs for sophisticated electromechanical systems.
  • Mastery of 3D computer-aided design for complex assemblies, including judgment in creating quick prototypes versus elegant parametric models.
  • Experience with a broad array of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, metal casting, computer numerical control machining, sheet metal forming, composites, and foam.
  • Ability to prototype quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to produce well-constructed, thorough mechanical part and assembly drawings.
  • A strategic approach across the design, source, build, validate, and ship process, with the ability to make considered decisions at various stages.
  • Obtaining Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 certification within the first 60 days of employment is encouraged for all employees and required for certain positions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of a vehicle platform from concept to production, integrating compute, sensor, connectivity, and aerodynamics technologies for autonomous drone systems.
  • Manage the mechanical team responsible for bringing the F10 ecosystem to market, overseeing mechanical development and delivery of the winged vehicle and ground systems/dock.
  • Work with product, electrical engineering, flight core, software, quality and reliability engineering, program management, supply chain, manufacturing, testing, and operations teams to drive product development from prototype through mass production.
  • Identify and drive architecture and technology downselections, considering aerodynamics, weight, thermal, and reliability implications.
  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies for aircraft, ground stations, and accessories as part of new architectures.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to shape and integrate custom printed circuit board assemblies, flex circuits, antennas, and cable harnesses.
  • Own technical activity at vendors in partnership with operations and supply chain teams.
  • Define and execute engineering tests and use analysis to evaluate system trade-offs and prove designs.
  • Drive designs through prototyping, pre-production, and mass production; support internal manufacturing and factory teams with assembly processes, quality criteria, and inspection criteria.
  • Debug and investigate failures to identify root causes.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with CATIA.

About the Company

Skydio

Builds autonomous drones for work in dangerous places

Skydio builds autonomous drones for public safety agencies, utilities and military teams that need images and information from dangerous or hard-to-reach places. Its flying robots span outdoor inspection, indoor reconnaissance and longer-range response missions, with visual and thermal cameras to capture conditions on the ground. Operators use its Command software to plan missions, launch aircraft from remote docks and turn repeated flights into inspection records or live views of emergencies. Skydio sells the aircraft, software subscriptions and support services to organizations directly and through resellers. Founded in 2014, it is headquartered in San Mateo, California, United States.
