About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 4 years leading and managing engineering teams.
  • Technical credibility to lead engineers at staff level and above, interrogate architecture and evaluation design in depth, and challenge senior engineers.
  • Production delivery experience with large language models, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation, or applied machine learning, with current platform judgment.
  • A strong foundation in distributed systems, backend platform design, and cloud architecture using Azure or Google Cloud Platform, with the judgment to set standards.
  • A track record of delivering AI or technology to non-technical business users with measurable outcomes and scaling enablement beyond personally run efforts.
  • Credibility with business stakeholders to identify valuable use cases and establish outcomes measured against stakeholders' own business metrics.
  • A track record of growing senior people and building healthy, high-output teams across technical and non-technical roles.

Responsibilities

  • Own measurable AI adoption across business functions, including use-case discovery, delivery, and outcomes tracked against each function's existing key performance indicators.
  • Own the enablement programme, including the champion network, company-wide AI literacy, and the cross-department use-case pipeline.
  • Build the enablement function by defining required roles, making the case for them, and hiring for them.
  • Lead and grow a mixed enablement and engineering organisation, owning hiring, performance, and career development.
  • Own and shape the Office of AI platform roadmap, growing AI Hub, Model Context Protocol servers, Claude connector delivery, the skill hub, usage analytics, low-code automation, and governance for published resources.
  • Lead the next platform layer and determine its direction, including consideration of a large language model access gateway, retrieval-augmented generation infrastructure, model operations, and integration patterns and engineering standards for product teams.
  • Lead technical work through judgment by interrogating designs, calibrating evaluations, and making final decisions when the team disagrees; invite review and challenge from all Office of AI engineers.
  • Own evaluation frameworks and practices and guardrails for reliable AI delivery, including output quality, hallucination detection, and regression testing.
  • Set technical strategy for applying large language models and agents across the engineering lifecycle in partnership with the Director of AI Engineering and Vice President of Engineering.
  • Partner with Security, Legal, and Platform Engineering to deliver safe, governed, and adopted AI capabilities.
  • Translate company-wide AI goals into concrete roadmaps and measurable outcomes across both areas of responsibility.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with multi-cloud environments, including Azure and Google Cloud Platform, and modern DevOps.
  • Experience in AI governance, evaluation, or responsible AI deployment.
  • Experience in a regulated or privacy-focused domain.
  • Recognition as a developer advocate, community leader, or conference speaker.
  • Former founder or chief technology officer experience.
