Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Completed formal dental assistant program at a college, technical institute or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience as a dental assistant (or 18 months if no formal training)
  • Registered with the Washington State Department of Health; current registration required
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support CPR within 90 days of hire and maintain current
  • Annual TB testing
  • Current Washington State dental registration
  • Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required
  • Annual influenza vaccine required (exemption allowed for medical or religious reasons with mask wearing during flu season)
  • Must pass the Dental Assistant II competency test and practical with a minimum score of 80% to be advanced or hired
  • Ability to communicate in English (reading/writing); ability to read and interpret common dental materials; ability to communicate with patients and staff
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Reasoning ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Possess the ability to read and interpret common materials about dentistry
  • Must be able to communicate basic mathematical figures and amounts (discounts, proportions, percentages)
Responsibilities
  • Provide chair side assistance using four-handed dentistry across Diagnostic, Preventive, Restorative, Endodontics, Periodontics, Oral Surgery, Prosthodontic, Orthodontics and other services allowed by the Washington Dental Practice Act
  • Escort each patient to and from treatment rooms; greet, seat, and depart patients professionally
  • Communicate provider delays and patient flow delays to front desk and patient
  • Provide patient education and instructions before, during, and after dental procedures
  • Participate in scheduling appointments in Dentrix and registering patients in Allscripts PM
  • Complete thorough, accurate charting in Dentrix using SOAP or PARTS format
  • Obtain accurate blood pressure readings and other vital signs as directed
  • Maintain proper sterilization methods and OSHA regulations in all clinic areas
  • Assist in inventory and ordering of dental supplies
  • Perform duties outlined in Task & Duty List or by supervisor/Regional Dental Manager
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Activities of the Dental Department and Sea Mar
  • Assist patients with treatment plans and cost estimates; sequence treatments; complete insurance pre-authorizations; verify eligibility and benefits as directed
  • Maintain records for MSDS, spore tests, inventory and ordering of dental supplies, maintenance of equipment, inventory lists, N2O and O2 cylinders, and Emergency Kit Log in standalone sites
  • Assist in coordinating training of new employees and/or dental trainees
  • Work on specific clinical or administrative duties assigned by Dental Supervisor, Clinic Manager, Regional Dental Manager or Management
  • Duties may vary; supervisor may assign temporary work in other departments or dental sites
