Requirements
  • At least one year of registration or billing experience in a medical facility is required.
  • Proficiency in patient registration, scheduling, medical insurance pre-certifications, authorizations, and referrals is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience using computers and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, registration systems, and billing systems, is required.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers to resolve discrepancies, update records, and ensure proper billing.
  • Perform quality patient registration, validation, and verification of insurance information.
  • Collect and review patient insurance information needed to complete benefit verification.
  • Investigate missing data needed to complete the verification process.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve questions and concerns about health insurance coverage.
  • Coordinate benefits and complete Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire processes for Medicare recipients.
  • Collect point-of-service payments and support patient satisfaction.
  • Use electronic insurance verification systems, payer portals, insurance verification websites, and telephone verification as needed.
  • Ensure payers receive timely notices of admission for scheduled and unscheduled admissions through electronic portals or fax.
  • Submit notices of admission to payors through the appropriate electronic portal or fax transmittal.
  • Communicate with physicians, New Jersey Medical Examiners, the Sharing Network, and funeral directors regarding deceased patients.
  • Initiate electronic death records through the New Jersey Electronic Death Registration System.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three to five years of experience is preferred.
  • Epic experience is preferred.
  • NAHAM Certified Healthcare Access Associate certification or HFMA Certified Revenue Cycle certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency with payer online portals, including NaviNet, Passport, Availity, and other third-party eligibility systems, is preferred.
