About the job

Requirements
  • Demonstrated rigorous quantitative work and judgment, including reasoning with base rates, sample sizes, conditioning, autocorrelation, overlapping windows, and fat tails.
  • Ability to formulate hypotheses from plausible mechanisms and test them against data without confirmation bias.
  • Ability to translate quantitative research into clear charts and concise explanations that non-quantitative traders can act on.
  • Genuine curiosity about financial markets and why prices move; professional markets experience is not required.
  • Ability to take feedback, update quickly when facts change, and work with low ego.
  • Ability to distinguish between rapid preliminary analysis and deeper studies according to the question's stakes.
  • Ability to identify data leaks, regime dependence, and artifacts in research results before sharing findings.
  • Ability to produce reproducible research using versioned data and code.
  • Fluency with modern artificial intelligence tools for research, coding, and literature triage, including disciplined verification of their output.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with low guardrails.
  • Knowledge of statistics and probability, including regression and its failure modes, hypothesis testing, bootstrap, resampling, and uncertainty in small and messy samples.
  • Experience with the Python data stack, including pandas, NumPy, SQL, data visualization, notebooks, and scripts.
  • Knowledge of backtesting and event-study hygiene, including point-in-time data, survivorship and look-ahead awareness, transaction-cost analysis, walk-forward validation, and multiple-testing restraint.
  • Familiarity with market data, including prices, returns, fundamentals, and earnings calendars.
  • Knowledge of regularized regression and gradient boosting, with an emphasis on interpretability over deep learning.
  • Ability to communicate research findings concisely for traders.
Responsibilities
  • Scope questions from traders, conduct quantitative studies, and communicate what the data shows, including the strength, history, and failure conditions of findings.
  • Build and maintain a documented library of trading signals and screens covering earnings and event setups, positioning and flow extremes, and regime and factor context.
  • Document each signal's edge and known failure modes, track live performance against expectations, and retire signals that decay.
  • Conduct event studies, conditioning analyses, base-rate analyses, and walk-forward checks using point-in-time data, leakage prevention, survivorship controls, transaction-cost accounting, and multiple-testing restraint.
  • Produce the recurring quantitative market layer covering regime, factor moves, breadth, and positioning for the desk's morning market picture.
  • Build and maintain clean point-in-time research datasets covering prices, fundamentals, earnings calendars, options, and positioning, with every reported number traceable to code and data.
  • Use artificial intelligence tools to test ideas, review research literature, and write code, while verifying their output.
  • Create reproducible, versioned research code and data so signals and studies can be rerun months later with the same results.
  • Surface material findings, track shipped research, and identify when a signal stops working.
Desired Qualifications
  • Options or positioning data experience is a plus.
