Requirements
  • Board-certified or board-eligible neurologist.
  • Fellowship in Neuromuscular or Clinical Neurophysiology with EMG/neuromuscular emphasis.
  • Michigan medical license, DEA registration, and CDS license are required.
  • Willingness to support and lead the ALS Program.
  • A medical degree and two years of direct or intern experience are required.
  • Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including proper telephone etiquette.
  • Must perform in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Ability to provide patient care by interviewing, examining, and treating clinical patients.
  • Ability to educate patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection using materials and resources for patients and families.
  • Ability to determine required referrals based on examinations and patient needs.
  • Ability to determine the urgency of follow-up and referral or consultation appointments.
  • Ability to exercise final medical judgment on healthcare issues.
  • Ability to prescribe medical treatment and clinical drugs.
  • Ability to order studies, tests, and ancillary services.
  • Ability to document services in patient medical records.
  • Ability to review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention.
  • Ability to consult with the Medical Director and other professionals regarding patient care, assessment, and education.

Responsibilities
  • Treat patients with neuromuscular disorders, focusing on subspecialty care such as neuropathy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, with a possible small component of general neurology.
  • Provide dedicated electromyography (EMG) services with support from experienced neurodiagnostic technicians in an AANEM-accredited lab.
  • Lead the Neurodiagnostics/EMG Lab.
  • Provide medical patient care through interviewing, examining, and treating clinical patients.
  • Educate patients on wellness, prevention, and early detection and provide materials and resources to patients and families.
  • Determine referrals based on examination and patient needs, and set urgency for follow-up and referral or consultation appointments.
  • Exercise final medical judgment in healthcare matters; prescribe medical treatment and clinical drugs; and order studies, tests, and ancillary services.
  • Document services in patient medical records and regularly review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention.
  • Consult with the Medical Director and other professionals regarding patient care, assessment, and education.
  • Participate in hospital- or clinic-established process improvement, management, continuing education, and patient care programs.
  • Oversee assigned mid-level medical staff and nursing clinical staff.
  • Assist in resolving patient complaints, requests, and inquiries.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Provide customer service consistent with the organization’s mission, values, and standards.
  • Respond to weekday call averaging four nights per month; no weekend call.
