About the job

Requirements
  • Bring at least 3 years of engineering experience building full-stack products or complex integrations in fast-moving environments, with production-quality code in TypeScript or JavaScript and Python.
  • Have experience with data pipelines and ETL processes and have integrated large language models into products or workflows.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and demonstrate ownership of customer outcomes with strong follow-through.
  • Have outstanding written and verbal English communication skills to collaborate effectively with US-based customers and internal teams.
Responsibilities
  • Own technical delivery across multiple customer deployments from initial prototype to production scale, embedding with customer teams to understand their workflows and build full-stack solutions that solve their specific problems.
  • Scope work, make pragmatic trade-offs between speed and quality, and write production-grade code across the TypeScript, Python, and data pipeline stack when delivery depends on it.

About the company

Span makes a smart electrical panel that serves as a centralized home energy hub. The SPAN Panel replaces a traditional breaker box and is controlled through the SPAN Home App, letting you monitor and manage every circuit in real time, while integrating with solar, home batteries, and EV chargers. It includes circuit-level control and outage-mode optimization that prioritizes essential loads to extend battery life by about 40%. The goal is to help homeowners save on energy costs, increase resilience during outages, and enable easier adoption of home electrification without costly utility upgrades.

What believers are saying

  • Eaton invested $75 million in March 2026, validating SPAN’s platform and runway.
  • SPAN launched XFRA in April 2026, expanding from homes into AI power infrastructure.
  • Local API support unlocks integrator demand and reduces cloud dependence for advanced homeowners.

What critics are saying

  • Schneider Pulse and Eaton-branded panels compress SPAN’s pricing power by late 2026.
  • SPAN’s proprietary breakers and full-panel replacement create expensive installs and procurement friction.
  • If Eaton prioritizes its own panel line, SPAN loses channel access and relevance.

What makes Span unique

  • SPAN’s 2026 API and Home On-premise deepen local control for energy automation.
  • Eaton’s March 2026 partnership embeds SPAN into giant distribution and installer channels.
  • SPAN still defines the category for circuit-level home energy management and backup prioritization.

The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its development efforts. Led by CEO J Zac Stein, Span is a provider of an AI-native developer intelligence platform bringing clarity to engineering organizations with a human-centered approach to developer productivity. In September 2025, Span launched span-detect-1, a proprietary model that helps teams measure the adoption and impact of AI-assisted coding across all AI tools. It detects AI-generated code at the chunk level and tracks it through the development lifecycle, providing verified measurement of AI's actual impact. The company partners closely with engineering leaders at companies including Ramp, Vanta, Carvana, Intercom, Braze, Writer, URBN, and ClassPass.
