Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check in accordance with Oregon requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and a reliable vehicle if transportation duties apply.
  • Must have smartphone access for documentation, communication, and timekeeping.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification, with training provided if needed.
  • Must complete the required annual training of at least 24 hours.
  • Must be comfortable around animals if applicable.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform bending, squatting, standing, walking, driving, sitting, and talking or hearing as required.
  • Must be available for varying day, evening, and night shifts, including weekends.
Responsibilities
  • Build a supportive, person-centered relationship with the individual and deliver care aligned with the Individual Support Plan.
  • Promote the individual's autonomy and choice by supporting their rights and decisions.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and toileting, and perform household tasks such as laundry, dishes, vacuuming, and tidying.
  • Collaborate with the individual, family, and support team to enable the best possible outcomes.
  • Facilitate community participation by helping plan and attend social, recreational, and appointment-based activities.
  • Support budgeting, shopping, and meal preparation when needed.
  • Administer medications or support medication protocols after receiving appropriate training.
  • Identify and report incidents or changes in the individual's health, behavior, or circumstances, and maintain required documentation in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Provide transportation in a personal vehicle when required for errands, community outings, or appointments.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least six months of experience working with the intellectual and developmental disabilities community or one year of caregiving or related experience.
  • Empathy, patience, and a person-centered approach.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in changing environments and schedules.
  • Ability to collaborate with families, support teams, and community partners.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Ability to make thoughtful real-time decisions that protect the safety, dignity, and rights of supported individuals.

Direct support professionals assist individuals at home and in the community through in-home care, day activities, positive behavior support, 24-hour residential services and employment programs.
