Clarios expands hAGM battery tech to more automaker programs and premium aftermarket

Clarios, a maker of low-voltage vehicle batteries, is expanding its hAGM battery technology across new vehicle programs and the premium aftermarket. Modern cars carry more electronics, which puts greater demand on the 12-volt battery. Several leading global automakers have chosen hAGM for high-volume future vehicle programs. Production for previously announced programs is due to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, and one more automaker has been selected for future programs. The company also recently launched OPTIMA REDTOP with hAGM+ technology for premium aftermarket use. It is built for higher electrical loads, frequent cycling, and heavy accessory use. Clarios and OPTIMA will showcase the technology at AAPEX and SEMA in Las Vegas.

Clarios expands hAGM adoption across new vehicle programs and the premium aftermarket. Leading global automakers have selected Clarios' hAGM technology for future vehicle programs, while the launch of OPTIMA REDTOP with hAGM+ technology extends the platform into the premium aftermarket. GLENDALE, Wis., Oct. 29, 2026 - Clarios, a global leader in advanced low-voltage battery technologies, is expanding the reach of its hAGM technology platform across future original-equipment programs and the aftermarket as modern vehicles place greater demands on low-voltage energy systems. Vehicles across powertrain types are becoming increasingly connected, software-enabled and electrically intensive. The growing number of electronic control units, safety and connectivity features, and energy-management functions is increasing the importance of the 12-volt battery to vehicle reliability and performance, including its role in helping reduce battery-related warranty risks. Modern vehicles also rely on the 12-volt battery to support electronic systems and important vehicle functions when the vehicle is not actively driving. Clarios developed hAGM as the next evolution of Absorbent Glass Mat battery technology to address these changing requirements. Built on a proven AGM foundation, hAGM is designed to support improved dynamic charge acceptance and reliable operation under demanding conditions, including higher electrical loads, repeated cycling, extended parking periods and growing dependence on electronic systems. These capabilities support faster energy recovery during short charging periods, improved cycling performance and vehicle efficiency under real-world operating conditions. Driven by hAGM's compelling value proposition, multiple leading global automakers have selected Clarios' hAGM technology for high-volume future vehicle programs. Production for previously announced programs is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2026. Clarios has also been selected to supply hAGM technology for future vehicle programs by an additional global automaker, further expanding the technology's OEM pipeline. "The role of the 12-volt battery is changing as vehicle architectures become increasingly sophisticated," said Federico Morales-Zimmermann, vice president and general manager of global OEM customers and technology at Clarios. "The selection of hAGM for future vehicle programs demonstrates that automakers are preparing for higher electrical demands with technology designed to support improved dynamic charge acceptance, enhanced cycling performance and reliable operation under real-world conditions." At the same time, the recently introduced OPTIMA REDTOP with hAGM+ technology builds on the Clarios hAGM technology foundation through a product developed for premium aftermarket applications. The product is designed to support demanding operating conditions, including higher electrical loads, frequent cycling, extensive accessory usage and modern electrical-system requirements. "The technology trends shaping future vehicles will also shape the replacement market," said Marc Andraca, president of U.S. and Canada Region at Clarios. "OPTIMA REDTOP with hAGM+ technology helps aftermarket partners and vehicle owners prepare for the more demanding battery requirements that increasingly sophisticated vehicles will bring." Together, the expansion of the future OEM program pipeline and the introduction of the new OPTIMA REDTOP demonstrate how Clarios is applying an advanced low-voltage technology foundation across solutions developed for vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket. Clarios and OPTIMA will highlight the hAGM technology platform during AAPEX and SEMA in Las Vegas, offering customers and other industry stakeholders an opportunity to learn more about changing low-voltage energy requirements and the connection between future vehicle technology and replacement-market demand. Clarios to buy Ecobat's North American recycling plants as part of $1.9B critical minerals push

Clarios plans to acquire Ecobat's North American operations, including three US critical mineral recovery and processing facilities. The deal aims to strengthen domestic recycling capacity and supply chain resilience. The sites are in City of Industry, California; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Middletown, New York, plus Ecobat's Dallas office. Together they process more than 40 million batteries a year, recovering lead, tin, and antimony. The deal is expected to close by early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. The purchase forms part of Clarios' $6 billion US Energy Manufacturing Strategy, which includes $1.9 billion for domestic critical mineral recycling and processing. It completes a portfolio overhaul Ecobat began in 2025, which included 10 divestitures covering 17 sites across six countries.

Clarios expands recycled PP portfolio for automotive use.

Clarios expands recycled PP portfolio for automotive use. 2026-10-08 Clarios is extending its Seculene range with around 30 polypropylene compounds based on 100% post-consumer recycled material. The grades are intended for automotive applications including battery housings, bumpers, underbody components and interior parts. Clarios is expanding its portfolio of recycled plastics for the automotive industry with the Seculene product line. The range comprises polypropylene compounds made from 100% post-consumer recycled material and is intended for applications including battery housings, bumpers, underbody components and interior parts. According to the company, the expanded offering is designed to help vehicle manufacturers and suppliers address growing demand for high-performance recyclates and prepare for future regulatory requirements. Recycled polypropylene is becoming increasingly relevant to the automotive supply chain as proposed European rules introduce mandatory minimum recycled plastic content for new vehicles. The planned targets under the new European End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation call for 15% recycled plastic content by 2032 and 25% by 2036. A defined share would have to originate from end-of-life vehicles, increasing demand for recycled materials with reliable performance and availability. Recycling and compounding capacity. Clarios is further developing its Seculene business at its Hanover site and at recycling facilities in Freiberg and Braubach, which were acquired in May 2026. The company is using these operations to extend its supply of recycled materials for the automotive sector and strengthen its capabilities across the polypropylene recyclate value chain. "We are reaffirming Clarios' commitment to circular value creation, resilient European supply chains, and reliable customer partnerships by expanding our polypropylene recycling and compounding capabilities," said Dr. Christian Rosenkranz, Vice President Industry and Government Relations EMEA at Clarios. Approximately 30 PP grades. Clarios will present the Seculene product line at Fakuma in Friedrichshafen from October 12 to 16. The portfolio includes approximately 30 material grades, covering unfilled and filled PP compounds as well as PP-EPDM compounds. The range also contains a flame-retardant polypropylene compound certified to UL 94 V0 and listed with a Yellow Card. The material is intended to meet stringent fire protection requirements and enable use in safety-critical applications. Read more:
