Requirements
  • Candidates must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Candidates must have completed a recognized Personal Care Aide/Health Care Aide certificate course (PCA/HCA 2002 or greater) or equivalent education certificate.
  • Candidates must have active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta.
Responsibilities
  • Bathe, shower, and wash residents according to the Nursing Care Plan to promote personal comfort and well-being while following strict water temperature control procedures.
  • Transfer or assist residents in transfers in and out of bed, to and from wheelchairs, commodes, or toilets, using appropriate engineering controls such as ceiling lifts and mechanical lifts, and personal protective equipment controls such as transfer belts.
  • Feed or assist residents with feeding during meals and nourishment or snack times, referring to the care plan for each resident's appropriate diet.
  • Provide routine treatments, including skin creams and bowel protocols, and care procedures under the direction of the Staff Nurse.
  • Assist residents to travel throughout the facility.
  • Assist residents to and from the dining room for meals, including helping them walk with or without mechanical aids such as walkers, wheelchairs, and positioning chairs such as Broda chairs.
  • Assist residents to and from the beauty parlor, physiotherapy, and recreation activities.
  • Accompany residents to social and therapy functions inside the facility.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of experience in continuing care or a related environment is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education is an asset.
