A High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Six months of experience in construction, maintenance, or repairs of roadways and bridges, operating heavy and light construction equipment, or closely related work is required.
A valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history must be maintained.
The employee must occasionally lift light and heavy objects.
The employee must work outdoors and may be exposed to cold or inclement weather, noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery, and chemicals.
The employee must use protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain road paving construction equipment, including rollers, loaders, tractors, dump trucks, backhoes, and water trucks.
Patch roadways, cut brush, and pick up and dispose of trash and brush.
Load and unload large amounts and weights of materials and debris to and from trucks.
Drive a medium-sized truck to transport personnel, supplies, and materials.
Flag traffic as needed.
Perform housekeeping and facilities maintenance functions as needed.
Perform related work as assigned.

General Description
The purpose of this class is responsible for the operation of heavy equipment to assist in the construction, repair and maintenance of county streets, drainage systems, beaches, and related infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below account for the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the class's work type as necessary.
