Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and Medical Assistant certification are required.
  • An active and current Basic Life Support provider card from the American Heart Association is required.
  • At least two years of relevant experience are required.
  • The candidate must be able to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • The candidate must be able to perform skills within the scope of a Florida Medical Assistant's duties.
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques for administering routine and special treatments is required.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and other applicable special procedures is required.
  • Knowledge of basic infection control and universal precautions is required.
  • Knowledge of age-specific patient care is required.
  • The candidate must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • The candidate must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinical staff.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel or float between sites.
  • Medical Assistant certification or a Certified Nursing Assistant license is required.
  • Computer literacy is required.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain vital signs and patient information for inclusion in patients' medical records.
  • Administer injections and treatments, perform routine laboratory tests, and assist with patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
  • Assist with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.
  • Provide patients with basic instructions and information regarding examination procedures.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments while observing sterile technique.
  • Schedule patients for tests and complete required laboratory-work forms.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies.
  • Escort and transport patients to various hospital locations.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of previous Medical Assistant and/or urgent care experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint is a plus.
