Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities planning, architecture, or a related discipline is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of management experience in a large educational or medical facility is required.
  • A master's degree is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities of assigned staff involved in maintenance, repair, and alteration services.
  • Arrange contractual services for plant operations and resolve facilities maintenance problems.
  • Ensure compliance with general, fiscal, and personnel policies and procedures, as well as Federal, State, and University regulations, codes, guidelines, and environmental care standards such as JCAHO and NFPA 101.
  • Prepare and implement capital renewal and building operating budgets.
  • Coordinate construction and capital projects and exercise budget control for assigned budgets.
  • Review construction plans and technical specifications to ensure facilities infrastructure meets operations and maintenance requirements.
  • Analyze control reports, investigate significant deviations, identify trends or inconsistencies, and make presentations and recommendations.
  • Maintain files for evaluations and appraisals, cost-accounting records, billing verification records, bidding-process records, and management reports.
  • Develop detailed project reports and take corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Hire or recommend hiring department staff, complete performance reviews, recommend promotions and salary actions, and address other personnel matters.
  • Consult and collaborate on staff requirements, training, and staff development; determine staff composition and organization and assign responsibilities.
  • Handle grievances and ensure constructive labor relations.
  • Introduce and maintain new methods and procedures, products, and equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance to University Facilities and Services operating groups and Planning and Project Management, including design review, engineering safety regulations, and operational issues.
  • Provide in-house sketches, drawings, and engineering reviews supporting operations, construction, and service groups.
  • Serve on various committees and work with University departments on health, safety, and security concerns.
  • Act as the principal Facilities coordinator for safety concerns and patient-care and life-safety issues.
  • Develop and maintain communications with clients and users and ensure facility performance meets user needs, regulations, codes, guidelines, and environmental care standards.
  • Plan and coordinate building and grounds operations, maintenance, alterations, and repairs.
  • Oversee facilities projects and coordinate activities within assigned areas.
  • Develop budgets, set priorities, inspect operations, and schedule operations and maintenance requirements for assigned areas.
